"Stop courting," I said, my eyes glued to the screen of my phone.
I tried to sound stern, my tone serious.
However, my heart pounded against my chest, betraying my casual facade. He was driving, and I was worried.
"What?" His voice was laced with confusion, his brows furrowing as he kept his focus on the road. The setting sun cast a glow on his face, highlighting his surprise.
"Stop courting," I repeated, my voice barely above a whisper.I could feel my palms getting sweaty, the cool metal of my phone slipping against my skin.
"Why?" His question echoed in the confines of the carThe only sound apart from the soft hum of the engine.
The traffic light turned red, and he brought the car to a halt, finally turning to look at me.
His eyes, a mesmerizing shade of blue, bore into mine, searching for an explanation.
"Why too?" I countered, avoiding his gaze.I could feel my cheeks heating up under his intense stare. I fiddled with my phone, hoping to distract myself from the tension that hung between us.
"Stop turning the tables, Star. Why?" His voice was firm, insistent. He had always been persistent, never one to back down from a challenge. It was one of the things I loved about him.
"Why would you court when you're already mine?" The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them. The silence that followed was deafening. I dared to glance at him, only to find him speechless.
His eyes were wide, his mouth slightly agape, as if my words had taken him by surprise.
I instantly regretted my decision to bring this up while he was driving. He was clearly distracted, my words spinning through his mind like a broken record.
The traffic light turned green, and the cars behind us honked impatiently, but he seemed oblivious to it all.
I reached out, placing my hand on his. "Focus on the road, okay?" I said, my voice soft. He blinked, as if snapping out of a trance, and nodded. As he drove off, I couldn't help but wonder what was going through his mind.
Had I made a mistake by confessing my feelings? Only time would tell.
