Chapter 3: The Lessons of the Day.

English was always a good laugh. Firstly I was with Karen, so the hilarity was ensured almost immedeatly. Secondly, we only had to move two seats to the left for the new seating plan (which I hated, as every class had one, it made chemistry and physics kind of unbearable but we'll talk about that later).

Anyways,  on with the lesson. Just as I had sat down, just about to un-zip my bag, a past paper was thrust rudely into my face. Groaning, I took it out of the offending students hand and began flicking through the insert that came with it. Karen plopped down beside me, equally as annoyed, she hated doing tests. On my other side, another girl, Julie sat down next to me. I knew Julie but I wasn't friends with her. She was a telekinetic, which meant she could move objects with her mind and it was quite handy knowing her really. Just ask for a glue stick and she'd sent one floating over.

She was quite the devil though. One time she took the boy in front of us's pencil case and, all with her mind, removed the contents, cabbaged it and put it under the teachers desk. The rest of us had to stifle our laughter while the poor boy went mad looking for it.

Anyways, I flicked open the paper and began to skim through it, not really paying attention to anything in the exam. Just I had got to question six, Miss Huffinch announced that this was the weekend homework due in for next Monday.

I was shocked. She never, ever set weekend homework. With my mouth slightly open and one eyebrow raised I slowly turned to Karen. The look she returned me was filled with equal shock, she looked as if she'd had a mini heart attack.

Smirking at her reaction, I took out my books and pens and sat down to business.

The rest of lesson continued with the usual dull affair, with the entire class reading from "Romeo and Juliet" and with Miss Huffinch making us write down every single little detail, painfully drilling it into your teenage minds.

Unfortunately, our teenage minds were very un-accepting of this English knowledge so, me and Karen left the lesson with no extra knowledge what-so-ever.

The next lesson was science, Chemistry, the L-Block, where the labs are.

I hated chemistry. it was more to do with our teacher than anything. She was a short, irritating woman by the name of Miss Hedgeton. Her power was the command of all chemical elements, which made her perfect for the subject she was teaching. But, she squandered that gift by setting us stupid work that did nothing to help our understanding. As I direct result, my grades were slipping, as I was getting B's when I should be getting A's.

As we sat down and got our books out, Miss began to drone on about our revision. She had in her hands a stack of 22 page revision plans. Well, that was my week ruined from today. The lesson continued into the class doing hard and soft water, a practical which involved lots of soapy water. A waste of time, if i wanted to look at soapy water I would have washed the dishes at home, so when the bell rang we left as quickly as possible. Out into the cold and wind, towards the "shelter" ( we don't know why it was called a shelter, for it did the exact opposite).

Unfortunately for us, as we got out into the fresh air, it started to spit. Just my luck, after a crappy lesson, crappy weather ensues! We sprinted up the very short distance towards the shelter, getting a few queer looks from some of the younger kids, but, pfft, we don't care!

Irritatingly, the moment we got under the shelter, the rain stopped again. That was when I saw Isabella laughing.

Another of my closer friends, Isabella was one of the most mischievous little brats ever to grace the mortal world, and that's being nice! She had control over the weather, and while it could useful at times, it was very unpredictable. It could also be triggered when she had strong feelings. If she was smitten, it would be a lovely summers day (kind of awkward the the middle of Christmas) but when she was angry, she could create storms (that holiday to New Orleans didn't turn out well).

Today though, she was in a good mood, unlike me, quite frankly.

"Why did you do that?!" I demanded, in my mock commanding voice.

"Hush, hush Mystic Meg!" Isabella replied (I had got that nickname because of my ability, kind of irritating, but hey, stuff happens) "You were too slow! Wanted to make you get here quicker!" she gave me a cheeky wink, noticed Karen, then ran hug her.

You could see Karen’s pain on her face as Isabella crushed her against her own body. Isabella was  a plump smiling girl hailing from Sussex. She was not the most normal of people, she dyed her hair green, not bright and bold, but dark. I think it suited her. Out of school she like to dress in dark clothing, not goth or emo like though. There was a distinct lack of skulls and leather.

Behind Isabella, I saw the rest of our rag-tag band. Dani, Josie, Donna, George, Harry and Valerie. Each had their own powers, except Dani and Donna, who where the twins of the group, but we'll come to that all that stuff later.

In the meantime, I saw Karen go up to George and bringing him into a very intimate hug, which he returned. My jaw dropped. I knew she had a boyfriend, but I didn't know who it was!

Karen saw my shock and called across "Surprised bitch?" and gave me a wink, breaking off her hug and trotted over. Leaving George a little bedraggled and as he wandered back over to the guy's group.

We spent the rest of break catching up on each-others holidays, it turned out Dani and Donna had both gone to Scotland, whereas Isabella had gone to Corfu, such fun times were had all round.

By the time the bell rang we where pretty much up to date, I was optimistic that the next few lessons were going to be good.

How wrong I was...
