--Sang's POV--
(-->) Chapter 1 (<--)
"I have to admit, I kinda wish they'd just let that place stay closed," Wil said blushing as a burp escaped along with his words. He was on his second can of Coca Cola. I rolled my eyes but smiled, still loving how innocent my 'brother' appeared to be.
There was so much that had happened that the school actually re-shut down. I have no idea how that's even possible. I'd joked about them bombing the place, but to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they did now.
This time we were sent to the alternative school for a total of 3 months. When we were finally allowed back inside of the school, it was December. Meaning we would go to school for a week only and then we'd be out for the 2 week Christmas break.
One week at Ashley Waters would be more than enough.
The only down part to all of this? The Academy Guys had left when Mr. Hendricks announced that the school was shutting down.
Before leaving, Gabriel had promised me that they would return when the school reopened but that they had something else to do in the meantime. North had demanded I use their numbers anytime, for any and every reason possible. Luke had let it slip that this was not what any of them wanted and that they were being involuntarily pulled from the mission due to 'unforeseen dangerous circumstances.'
Oh, yeah, and that happened as well. The 9 hottest guys I've ever met on the planet sat me down and gave me the bare bones of what they were really doing at Ashley Waters. They were on a mission from their private Academy school to come in and be an example to the students of how to act and stuff. When I didn't fall for that-who'd be stupid enough to force their fancy students to mix in with the rabble at AW?-they finally gave in and told me that the Academy was not a real school. I'm sure they picked and chose what details to give me, but what they gave me was enough to blow my mind.
Apparently, this Academy took in kids-adults, teens, whoever-and gave them skills and the opportunity to study and become whatever they seriously had an interest in. A perfect example was the 19 year old Doctor Green. The guys said that the Academy needed to be a secret because there were things called 'missions' that were always for good reasons, but could create enemies.
That was when they allowed the last bomb to drop. Their real 'mission' was to catch whoever was responsible for the death of Lacey Montgomery, the kid who died during the Last Day when my brother Bryan was a 1. Their Academy had done some research and thought that would be the best starting point for them to help clean up the school; get rid of the murderer. They'd asked me, but I never actually saw who did it. I only heard about it so I could only point them to who was there. The one arrested for it was allowed back in school after he was found innocent due to the death being an accident.
It was amazing what information the Academy Guys could dig up years after the fact.
I wasn't able to get much more out of them, though, and then, like the wisps of a very good dream, they were floating out of my life just as quickly as they'd dropped in.
In the three months since Last Day, I'd used their numbers a total of 0 times.
How many times did I need it? About a million.
I was currently at home with Wil and we were sitting in my room. Wil was guzzling another Coca Cola and I was munching on my favorite chips: hot Cheetos puffs.
When we realized school was going to start up again--at AW I mean--I went and picked him up and we'd been locked in my room since.
I was a 1 at AW, as were Rocky and Greg. Being a 1 didn't end when the school bell rang though. I often received calls from girls who were out at the mall or a park and thought they saw Eddy or Greg. I would hop in Tony and shoot there just to stand there and glare at Eddy until he left. In the past 3 months, those calls were constant. Eddy seemed to drop to a new level of pathetic cowardice. Yeah, my summers and school breaks were a real hoot and a half.
Rocky had moved Mikey up to his #2 seed after Jay was sent to a boarding school. At least, we all thought it was a boarding school. When he went after Mr. Blackbourne, he refused to give up Hendricks--oh Mike had already spilled the beans to Wil that Mr. Hendricks had set Jay up to attack Mr. Blackbourne. I couldn't pass that on, however, since it wasn't my information to pass.
But no, the main thing I say I needed the guys for was more....personal.
It could be that Dr. Green's kiss had lingered on my lips to the point that I'd go crazy at night feeling the phantom of it. It was such a soft caress that it was barely there at first. Then he'd said those words. He's said "you are the one" and he was looking at me as he said it. Then, with a more passionate and bruising kiss, he'd released me.
I remember feeling stuck in a haze while I had to go back to the library with Wil to calm my people down and get them home safely.
Anyway, on the personal side, Bryan had shown up later that night. Like calling me at 3 am to come pick him up from the airport kind of late at night.
He'd only been able to stay for a few days wherein he'd met Marissa--our father's new wife, and Kane--our 4 year old half-brother. Our father had had a stroke while driving back from his home with her--she lived literally in a different state. She also had no idea Bry or I existed. Our father came clean with her in the hospital but he was mandated to stay in the hospital until he was better. He had a heart scare a few days before he was to be released so he's been in there still.
He'd be coming home in a few days.
Making matters worse? Marissa would be moving in here and she'd enrolled her older children into school at Ashley Waters.
Marie and Micheal Sorenson.
They weren't my father's biological children--according to him and Marissa. The twins--that's what I call them--were a product of Marissa and her former husband. However, they were off at boarding school somewhere when Dad had his stroke so Bry missed the privilege of meeting the terrible two.
I, however, got it and I'd give it up anytime.
Marie is a spoiled princess.
Micheal.....he'd be alright if he wasn't such a jockhead. He also was under the impression that, since we shared no blood, I was fair game. It was sickening.
I only had the house to myself for a few days before Dad, his new wife, his son, and her other children would all be piling into this house. I was to share a room with Marie while Micheal and Kane shared Bry's old room. My dad and Marissa would take the big one downstairs.
They all had a new thing coming if they thought I was going to take this all lying down.
Marissa had already shown her evil side. She didn't want me here, and, if she had her way, I'd be off to whatever boarding school she had shipped her own children off to as soon as possible. Dad........ as neglectful as he was before, I couldn't bring myself to accept that he'd literally gone and gotten a new life. While he had one here with me that he didn't give a rat's tail about.
I couldn't wait to see how everyone assimilated. I, for one, wasn't about to change anything about my lifestyle.
I'm Sang, and I'm the 1.
