--Sang's POV--
(-->) Chapter 2 (<--)
Here it is, the first day back.
As I dressed--oh so very slowly trying to do whatever I could to delay the moment I had to walk into that building--in my uniform, I gazed at myself in the half length mirror.
My white blouse was a button up and I'd left two buttons undone at the top. The tie was black, but new black so it wasn't faded or anything. The skirt I chose for the day was a mini; I shrugged and smirked at my reflection. They could try to get me on that but I'd have the rulebook on my side; black bottoms (pants for boys and skirts for girls) were the only specifications. It never said what kind of skirt.
I smiled as I noticed that the skirt tugged itself up leaving more of my legs and thighs exposed when I reached up.
Using an index finger, I made my lips extra glossy and slipped a black headband with white hearts all over it. I paused a moment as a scene from one of my favorite movies came to mind.
"Hmmm 39 black. That proves it you are definitely black with white stripes, Goodnight!" And Alex rolled over and pretended to snore so that his zebra, hippo, and giraffe friends would not notice he'd been eyeing one of them as a piece of juicy, delicious steak.
Giggling, I pounded down the stairs and hopped in Tony peeling out of the driveway with a wistful glance at the spot on the sidewalk where I'd first lain eyes on Nathan Griffin. His muscles had been rippling in the black slacks and white muscles shirt. He had had the white top slung over his shoulder in a typical tough guy pose and the tie was God knows where.
I felt my cheeks heating up as I recalled blowing my horn at him and him being in one of my classes all in the same day.
My phone's new ringtone startled me yanking me abruptly back into reality. I just love that new song, Welcome To America by Lecrae. I always feel so spoiled listening to it. And not in a good way; in a way that makes me want to do better.
"Hello," I spoke as I swiped the green button to accept the call. The screen displayed a picture of her and was nicknamed "The Step-Monster."
She went on and on about how I knew that Marie and Micheal were starting at a new school today-my school-and I should've been a nice sister and ask them if they wanted a ride, or even just woken them up. Apparently their boarding school didn't have such an early class schedule. Marie was still snoring away on the other side of the room when I was gazing at the mirror and fondly daydreaming of Alex the lion.
After about 10 minutes, I cut in. "Marissa, I'm already gone now. Besides, Marie and Micheal are both 18, the same age as me. It shouldn't be on me to wake them up." I left out just how much I would loathe having to put them in Tony. Tony was my baby, a hand me down of sorts from my big brother Bryan. Micheal and Kane may have taken over Bry's old room, but none of my dad's new family was taking Tony.
"Sang, sweetie," she sighed. "I just don't know what to do with you. If you're giong to be a part of this family..." I zoned her out after that.
I wasn't joining her family. She was joining mine.
I pulled up at Wil's house and blew. Pressing the home button, I was able to text Wil that I was outside even while Marissa was still going on about family. I had a mother; she died before I got to know her, but still, she was mine. What's that saying for when girls and their mothers argue....something about 'your mom can have more daughters, you can never have another mother.' Well my mother and I both can never have another each other.
And wasn't that a sad thought to start the day with.
I wish I knew more about her. My full name-Sangrida-had come from grandparents on my Dad's side, so that wasn't a link to her. My knowing how to do my hair and makeup? Yeah, that came from Dad's mom as well. She'd taught me plenty before they both died when I was a kid.
"Marissa, can we talk when I get back? Thanks." I hung up without waiting for her response.
Wil came out of the door minutes later and plopped into my front passenger seat with a sigh. He raised one hand to grip the windowsill and rested the other on his computer bag. I'd just gotten him a new Macbook. He was over the moon about it; new features and all that stuff.
Bryan left me a little bit of money when he went back to school.
"How'd you get out without the new siblings?"
I pouted at him, "I just left. And I only have two siblings: you and Bryan."
"What about Kane, you said you like him." I glanced over at Wil as I parked Tony in the student parking lot. My space was still as close to the door as I liked it. I smiled as I realized the space next to mine had also been left empty for Wil. He didn't have a car, but he was my official 2nd, so that was his space.
I ignored his statement and questioned "So, we're back. Got anything I should know?"
He pulled out his Macbook and grinned at me as it powered on. He clicked around for a while before pushing his glasses up on his nose and beginning with the day's agenda. "There's no meeting set for today but if you want, I can call one."
He glanced at me and I shook my head, choosing to let my gaze roam around the parking lot at the various students standing around talking and playing around. There weren't a lot of them, but enough that something could go down at any minute.
"Mike's been officially declared Rocky's 2nd, as you know. Um....Hendricks has two shipments coming in this week; one of them is for some teacher named Mr. Kade who'll be teaching Computer Digital Principles Analysis. That's a new class as well; never saw it on the course catalog before. I did get into the system so I could see what the guy looks like; he doesn't look very old. First name: Keith. Apparently, he's a good guy with computers though. He's got no criminal record, isn't married, no kids, and not even a driving ticket from what I can see. The other shipment is for another new teacher named Crystal Peaks. I couldn't find any type of link to a Ms. Peaks. She's a new English teacher apparently, though none of the old English teachers have been fired. I don't see a new class added either. Her shipment is for $1600 worth of English textbooks."
I took the information and threw it around in my mind for a minute while I took in his tone as well.
"You're thinking the Peaks shipment is another front for Hendricks?"
He simply nodded.
"Next, we got a couple other new teachers. No shipments or anything but they seem alright. Like Mr. Kade, they've got no criminal record, and no other flags. They're all teaching new courses as well. Mr. Diego Saxon, who's teaching U. S. History; Mr. Lichten who is taking over for Physical Education-looks like he's the new head and the old P.E. teacher will only assist him; and the last is an assistant principal, Craig DeSoto. Looks like McCoy has been demoted. None of them had an extensive history. From what I could tell, though, it wasn't made up so I would guess they're just normal people."
"That it?"
"Yup, you need more drama?," he chuckled.
I laughed along "No way. I'm fine with a gentle, calm day. You ready for this? To head back into the hellhole they call Ashley Waters?"
He snorted "Is anyone ever?"
I gave Tony a pat as I closed the driver's side door and Wil did the same with the passenger side. Side by side, with his arm around my waist, we walked in and mentally prepared ourselves to be back.
A/N: sorry this will not be a crossover. I was just fishing and looking for names. As a point of fact, if you guys give me 4 names for guys, I can go back and change all four. Cause...yeah....the SB team doesn't feature in this story. Just need some names for the Academy teachers
