In numerology, twenty-three is associated with the planet Uranus. Uranus represents change, progress, and innovation. In terms of numerology, it signifies new beginnings, revolution, and transformation. So the Consuelo family has high expectations for those at and over the age of twenty-three, believing that this is the age of when one becomes and adult. This tradition was passed down for about three generations; one-hundred years. So now it Rosella's turn, turning twenty-three in six months. "Rosella?" Mrs. Consuelo, Rosella's mom, shouted Rosella's name with excitement. "Yes, Mami?" Rosella answered from the kitchen. "Your Abuelo Ariel sent something!" Mrs. Consuelo shoved an envelope in Rosella's face. "What's this?" She asked, turning off the faucet. "Open it!" Mrs. Consuelo sang. Drying her hands on her sweater, Rosella grabbed the envelope. She turned it over and opened it. The letter wrote:
Dearest Rosella,
I know how overwhelming it can be as you near the big age of twenty three! Trust me I've been there. But, I'd like to congratulate you in getting the new car, new apartment, and maybe soon enough, a new life! I love how you are creating a new and healthy environment for yourself. When I was younger I wished I had a time to rest after all the preparation of turning the big 23! So here, enjoy it.
Lots of love,
Abuelo Ariel y Abuela Ana
"What does he mean enjoy it?" Rosella asked. "Check the envelope again!" Mrs. Consuelo urged. Rosella peeked in the envelope and saw a ticket. A plane ticket. She looked up at her mother, "Mami! Did you know about this?" Rosella exclaimed. Mrs. Consuelo smiled, "Surprise!" Rosella put the envelope down on the counter and hugged her mother, "Gracias, Mami." Mrs. Consuelo kissed Rosella's cheek, "You deserve it, mi hija." Rosella smiled and checked the ticket once more, Destination/ Dominican Republic. "The DR?!" Rosella squealed, jumping up and down. "You've always wanted to go," Mrs. Consuelo paused. "So why not now?" Rosella surged with questions to ask, "Where will I stay?" was what she asked. "You remember Tia Rosa?" Mrs. Consuelo asked. "Didn't she come visit the summer ?" She reminded. Mrs. Consuelo nodded, "She has a house over there with your two cousins and she is working out a job for you, so you can have at least some sort of finance over there." Rosella was excited, a new place, a new beginning.
