"Do I really have to?" I asked my mother about the fourth time trying to convince her to leave me at home.
"For the millionth time Daze, yes you have to come to work with me."
"A normal mother would have left me at home."
"Wrong family." She just shrugged, knowing that she had won the argument. I've run out of arguments, you can't seriously argue with mothers, especially mine.
"Daisy move. Christian will kill me if I'm late." Mom complained as if we weren't 30 minutes early anyway.
I raised my head from the mobile phone and with raised eyebrows I looked at my mother standing ready in the hall.
"Mom...your boss is your longtime friend, I'm sure he won't mind if we're 5 minutes late. We're half an hour overtime anyway." I pointed to the clock as proof. Mom rolled her eyes as she tried to collect all the things she needed for work."Mom, it's the first day of the summer holidays, I should be out with my friends or I at the swimming pool or at the outdoor cinema and not hanging out with you and your colleagues at work..." I complained the whole way, because this was my punishment.
"You should have thought of that before sneaking out of the house to that stupid party, young lady."
"Are you really still mad? It's been a week."
She stopped at the first traffic light and looked at me with wide eyes.
"Daisy, you realize that you broke the agreement and besides that something could have happened to you. I'm your mother, I'm punishing you because I'm worried about you and I love you, that's normal."
"I love you too..."We were just entering the underground garage that belonged to the Miles building.
I got out of the car and grabbed my survival pack from the back seat. It contained a charger, earphones, snacks, napkins because they are not everywhere in public toilets, and of course a book.
We finally made it to Mom's office on the top floor of a tall building. There was already a lot of papers waiting for mom in the office, and unexpectedly, Mr. Boss Miles too. Mom immediately looked in horror at the watch on her wrist to see if she was late, but no, we were just here earlier than we had to be.
"Hi Christian, what are you doing in my office, did something happen?" Mom greeted her boss.
"Good morning Soyar, don't worry, nothing is going on, I just came to inform you that today you will have to do a quick lesson for our new client, she should come today in about half an hour. I told her that you will meet downstairs at the food courts." Mom's eyes widened in surprise.
"Damn it Chris couldn't you have told me earlier?" Mom cringed. Mr. Boss raised his hands in defense and smiled as if nothing had happened. "Sorry Soyar, she only let me know about it now too."
Mom quickly put her things on the table and tried to prepare herself for lesson. I was still standing there in the doorway and I didn't know what to do, sit down or stay standing... sneak out slowly.
"By the way this is Daze, my daughter, I'm sure you remember her. Honey this is my boss, Mr. Miles." She quickly introduced us while applying her lipstick.
I looked up at Mr. Boss Miles and...wow. The guy, he was handsome, he certainly didn't have a problem with women. Everyone had to fall on their knees when they saw him, he was so beautiful.
Miles adjusted his tie and stood up from the table to politely shake my hand. As soon as he stood up, I felt 30 centimeters shorter.
When he gave me his hand, his firm grip on my skin burned.
I shook my head. There are many such men in the world, I said to myself and pretended to be nice so that my mother wouldn't look at me.
"I'm Daze, unfortunately I don't remember you."
Miles laughed and introduced himself as well.
"I'm Christian and I remember you little Daze. You were a pretty monster when you were younger." He was making fun of me.
"Damn I have to run now." Mom say.
"Chris, you have my daughter in charge today...." Miles' face stiffened. "...honey you go with Chris to his office and stay there with him until I come. I'm running bye-bye."
"Soyar? What? I'm supposed to babysit your kid? You can't order me around, I'm your boss." He was serious. "You should have thought of that early Chris."
She slipped out of the office and was gone. Miles still seemed surprised that he had to watch over me.
Miles folded his arms and looked at me confused. I just smiled. "Welcome to my world." I said sarcastically and took my backpack.
"Come on little one, I don't know what to do with kids so just follow me to my office." I rolled my eyes. Did he really call me a child? Well, technically I was a child, but I was seventeen soo...
