I stared coldly out the car window as my brother chattered on about how fun this move was going to be. Sadly, I was not quite as thrilled. In fact, you could say I was the opposite of thrilled. I was mad, mad at my mom, mad at my dad, mad at the whole entire freaking world because we were moving and I took it as a personal offense. And since I found two weeks ago that yelling and screaming would only get me grounded, I had resorted to a more passive aggressive approach.
"Allllmost thereee" my mother called in a sing song voice. I sighed in exasperation and partially relief. "Thank god", I thought sarcastically "too much longer suck in a car with these guys and their excited chatter and I am going to lose whatever sanity I have left."
Almost an hour later we pulled up in a drive that lead to a two story house that was painted a pale shade of blue. Beyond the wooden door there was surely a living room, a kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. The problem was they were not my driveway nor was it my house, neither was it my living room or kitchen or bedrooms or bathrooms. At least not yet anyway. So when my dad jumped out of the car and yelled "We're home!" and by brother started jumping around excitedly and my mom looked at the thing affectionately... well, you can imagine my annoyance.
"WE'RE NOT HOME" I yelled angrily at my father who looked taken aback. I took a deep breath, embarrassed about my outburst and the fact that now my whole family was watching me. "Liz..." my dad said condescendingly "I understand that you are upset by the fact that we had to move but it was necessary for your mother's work and mine."
My parents work together as scientists for for some fancy company that I can never remember the name of for the life of me. The only problem was the dumb place required my parents to move here to the town of Dremsten "Okay?" my dad's voice snapped me out of my trance. "Whatever" I said sullenly as I stalked up to the door.
My brother followed me, asking. "You OK Liz?" I gave him quick smile "I'm fine Daniel, just a bit stressed from the drive." I said ruffling his short brown hair. "Stooooop", he whined. "You're messin up the dew!" I rolled my eyes but did not justify his comment with a response. I guess it was unneeded anyways because my brother called behind us "Are you slow pokes coming or what?", he taunted my parents. They smiled and said there were on there way.
We walked through the front door that lead to the living room. On the left there was a staircase and on the right the dining hall and kitchen. Me and my brother, both assuming the bedrooms were upstairs looked at each other and yelled simultaneously, "I call first pick". I smiled at our likeness "Race ya?" I said "OK" he nodded in agreement, then a sly smile crept on to his face. "readysetgo!", he yelled quickly and took off up the stairs. " Hey!" I laughed chasing after him "That's cheating!" though I quickly caught up with him, using my longer 15 year old legs against his ten year old ones to their full advantage.
