"I'm flying, Mom!" Izuku yelled as she spun him around, hand in hand, in the living room.

It was the morning of Izuku's quirk assessment, ecstatic; he ran to the car, leaping from his mom's arms in the process.

He'd waited four years, anticipating this very moment, and that excitement only grew as he and his mother sat, waiting for the doctor to call them up for the appointment.

Eventually, their name was called. Izuku dashed into the doctor's office, Inko trailing not far behind. Awaiting his results, Izuku jumped eagerly, asking his mom, "What do you think my quirk will be?"

The doctor returned ten minutes later, papers in hand, mouth pressed downward, forming a subtle frown. "Is everything alright?" Inko quietly asks the doctor. Grimacing, he tells Inko to step aside for a brief moment. This went unnoticed by Izuku, blinded by his excitement.

"your son is quirkless," the doctor exclaims. "Good luck."

Upon re-entering the office, teary-eyed, Inko rushed to her son, reciting two words repeatedly. "I'm sorry." - "Why are you crying?" whispers Izuku.

Overlooking the crying mother and dazed boy, the doctor says, "You're quirkless; I'm sorry."

His glistening eyes had dimmed, losing the sparkle they once possessed as he stared down at his feet unmovingly. The world was spinning around him, yet never had he felt so stuck.

Nine years had passed since that event. His mother's eyes held no love for him anymore; his best friend loathed him; he was outcasted. In society's eyes, even in his own eyes, he was worthless, yet somehow not worthless enough to not get beaten up. He was a nobody, virtually nothing.

Today had been a rough day; Bakugou, formerly known as Kachan, hadn't been in the best mood, as in class that day, the teacher exposed Izuku for still wanting to go for UA. This enraged Bakugou; he didn't take it lightly, tossing the Izukus Hero analysis notebook out the window into the fish pond. Upon being let out of school, Bakugou and his so-called lackeys corned Deku; they sat and watched as Bakugou set off his explosion quirk into Izuku's shoulder, burning his uniform.

Bakugou no longer called him Izuku; that name had been abandoned long ago and is now replaced by the nickname "Deku," meaning worthless. Forgotten by the explosive teen, their friendship no longer held any value to him.

After limping home from that event, Izuku attempts to turn the doorknob but soon realizes it is locked and the key beneath the doormat has been removed. He had nowhere to go.

So now, Izuku stands at the ledge of the Aldera Middleschools roof, shoes taken off, and his backpack belongings scattered. He didn't feel worthy of a note; after all, who would read it?
Taking a step forward, he whispers, "I'm flying, Mom," as he steps off the ledge.
