The room was filled with other guests who were known as family and friends of my parents. People I didn't even know. People I bet my parents didn't know but invited for the 'kindness' of it.
Kindness. I bet these people are important. Powerful. Rich. That's why there here.
I stood in the corner of the room watching how other girls wore big dresses as did I. Men wore suits and kissed girls hands. How they covered they're mouth when they laughed and raised a pinky when they drank out of their glass.
How they wore jewels on everything and said 'thee' and 'thy' like it was a real thing.I sighed and put my hand on my stomach, my corset smashing my already flat stomach because of these things.
I wore a dark red dress with white spots like snow. My silver tiara on my head bringing to life my dark red curls.
God I hated these parties. I hated these smug rich royal people. I hated how I had to come to them. And most of all, I hated how I was a Royal.I walked to the dessert table and grabbed a plate, putting a small piece of cake on it with some fruit. I looked up and saw a familiar face.
I squinted my eyes because it looked like him but I somehow knew it wasn't."I'm sorry..do I know you?"
I asked the familiar strangerHe looked up at me and smiled, his soft blue eyes staring into mine.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. I believe we've never met."
But his voice sounded so familiar. His eyes. His facial features.
"My apologies then. I'm Jasmin."
I stuck out my hand and bowed slightlyHe took it and kissed it softly
"My Lady Jasmin. I am Matthew. Matthew Sturniolo."
"Sturniolo? As in your familiar with Nicolas Sturniolo?"
I asked with a confused face"Yes, Ma'am. He's my brother. Triplets actually. He's the oldest."
"Triplets? But I've only spoken with Nick. And now you. Who's the other?"
"That would be our brother Chris. Thee youngest."
Ugh Thee
"Nick never told me he had brothers."
"And he never told me he had such a beautiful friend."
He smiled and so did II rolled my eyes playfully before starting to walk away, he followed.
"Where is Nicolas? Is he here?"
"He was somewhere around here."
"Well, if you find him do me the favor of telling him I'm looking for him please. He'll understand."
I turned to him with a soft smile"I would be happy too, my lady."
He bowed before walking offI stayed looking at him until he disappeared in the crowed, and with a breath I went back to the corner, eating my cake.
I sat for awhile watching people dance and talk about money and land. I hated it. Why did I have to be a royal? I was to marry a prince before I turned 17. And lucky me, I happen to be 16. So my parents are trying to get me to behave as much like a princess as possible to be suitable.
"Jasmin! My goodness child! Are you trying to kill me? Sit up straight!"
My mother came over and pushed my back, making me sit up straight"Mother chill. It was just for a second."
"Chill? Chill?! I told you not to use those words! What are you? A peasant? We don't use that language."
She reminded. Again.
