"Who's the fourth agent?" Marion demanded.
Mac was silent.
"Mac? Who did you send with my daughter and husband?"
She stepped close to his desk and started shuffling papers. A wartime file spilled onto the floor. Marion recognized the heading. "Nanking," she whispered. "The massacre of Nanking. You have Indy's war crimes excavation report here."
Mac tried to lunge to stop her. She struck the pistol butt against his head. He collapsed half over the desk.
The war crimes report was scattered all over the floor. Criminal reports of crimes against humanity, smeared with coffee stains and her husband's tears.
Across Indy's report, stamped in red ink was written, 'valuable asset.'
Marion hesitated then picked up the report secured with a paperclip. There were photographs of Indy's war crimes investigation. The photographs he had never wanted her to see.
Marion covered her mouth and almost screamed at the carnal horrors, but she couldn't find her voice. She backed against the wall of the office, shutting the door. Her hands trembled. She shoved the pistol into her waistband, not trusting her hands to NOT pull the trigger.
She used her boot to move the papers around, afraid to touch them, as if the contents would destroy her. Finally she got to the last page and picked it up.
Fury filled her body. She crushed the paper in her hand, trembling. "You... let... Edo... go...free? After you knew what he did in Nanking?!"
Mac groaned.
"What valuable knowledge could he have possibly learned by abusing women and children?" Marion seethed.
Mac started to shift his weight.
"Don't move!" Marion had his pistol pointed at his head. "You deserve to die for letting that bastard free!"
