"A good name is better than precious ointment..." - Ecclesiastes 7:1. (KJV)
"Reputation is preferable to great wealth, popularity to silver and gold."
- Proverbs 22:1 (Byington)As a whole we do well to put forth effort to acquire and maintain a good reputation. To sacrifice our name/reputation to attain a measure of instant gratification is foolish in the end.
Think of brands that sacrifice the quality of their product to gain a margin of profit. What happens over time when consumers leave negative reviews?
We would do well in trying our best to do what is right. This would include speaking the truth when answering, refusing to slander another person's name, not going back on a promise we make, and never accepting a bribe that would taint justice.
In a world facing rampant cancel culture, be the reason someone smiles hearing your name.
