The rest of the day went slowly for Stella, the inevitable lingering in her mind as she lazing stumbled through the chores she had assigned herself. Keeping busy usually helped her mind ease a bit, but it wasn't helping today, too much weighed on her thoughts.
The day passed and even as the following morning came and went, Stella's anxiety only seemed to worsen. She'd stood in place for an hour, sweeping the same spot over and over, her mind running in circles.
"I feel bad, why do I feel bad?" Stella mumbled to herself out loud, both angry and confused. "You should be happy Stella! You get to see your husband tomorrow!" Gritting her teeth, she threw down the broom, frustrated. "WHY AREN'T I HAPPY?"
"Is there a problem with our broom?"
Stella jumped, letting out a shrill scream before whipping around, her hand covering her mouth as her eyes locked with Wong's.
"JESUS Wong, don't scare me like that!" Stella huffed, crossing her arms. "Where do you keep coming from?"
"Outside." He raised a brow. "Do you speak to yourself often?"
Stella blushed slightly, looking away with embarrassment.
"Only when I'm frustrated." She mumbled, relaxing her shoulders and letting out a deep sigh. Her hands flexed, trying to shake out what little nerves she could. Wong raises a brow, stepping closer. "Did you want something or do you just enjoy scaring the crap out of me?"
"Both." Wong smirked ever so slightly. "You will be returning home tomorrow, back to your plane of existence, as you should."
Stella felt something inside her twist, her anxiety twisting with a new feeling of anger.
"Do you have a problem with me?" Stella huffed, not caring for politeness anymore. "I did do anything to you."
"No, you didn't" Wong sighs, turning his back to her and walking towards the door. "But your presence here upsets the natural balance and prolonging your return has made our job as guardians of earth harder than it needs to be."
"Prolonging? I haven't prolonged anything!" Stella spat, clenching her fists.
"That is not to mention the constant distraction you have served to Mr. Strange." He shook his head, clicking his tongue. "He should be beyond a pretty face."
"Hang on!" Stella yelled, rushing forward and putting herself between Wong and the door, her arms outstretched. "Why can't you just explain something? Why do you always have to be so cryptic?"
"I know things that would make your mind melt in on itself like a collapsing star, you fail to see what is right in front of you. I am not required to explain anything."
"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" Stella finally snapped. "Why do you hate me?"
Wong shook his head again, his hands firmly folded behind his back.
"I do not hate you Mrs. Strange, but you are unsure of yourself, causing Mr. Strange to be unable to focus on his duty." Wong moved closer, squinting his eyes. "His duty to protect the earth."
"Wait... that's what all this has been about? Stephen?" Stella relaxed, her anger fading away. "What's there to be unsure about? I like him because he reminds me of my husband, he finds me annoying, but tolerates my presence out of necessity. Just like my REAL husband."
It felt odd to admit her feeling out loud, but it couldn't be helped. If sleeping together hadn't solidified how she felt then nothing would, but Stephen? What would he have to be conflicted about?
