Hoodie was running down the hall. Papers were in his hands, which in frustration he almost threw down and stomped on, but he had orders so he continued running.
Rounding a corner, Hoodie swiftly avoided every student, something he had learned through the weeks of being in this cursed school.

Finally he reached Slenderman's office and knocked rather loudly, not caring for disturbing the operator.
As the door opened, Hoodie rushed in.

"Some students— I don't know which— found the portal."

Slenderman looked up slowly.
"Have a seat," crackled through Hoodie's head.

As he sat down though, Hoodie didn't hesitate to start talking.
"Someone on Zalgo's side came through, word is that—"

" 'Word is'," Slenderman repeated, "Which isn't what I want to hear. I need facts.
"Hoodie, have you come to tell me rumours, or will you tell me what troubles you?"

Hoodie sighed.
"Sir, with all due respect," he slammed down the papers, "These are facts. I got them off a messenger down at Zalgo's. I made a copy, but it states that they know two people, the students' age, had been seen 'on the other side of the portal'. Which in their words means our side, behind the door."

Slender nodded.
"That will not be much of an issue."

Hoodie was about to speak, before he realised Slender was throwing the problem aside. "What?" Zalgo would walk through the portal himself to see who keeps it open, the students were causing that.

"Just have two students you think are useless to us go to the portal room. Most likely they won't find the portal, but they will get locked up at the very least. The person standing guard on Zalgo's side will find the two dead or alive students and the trouble will be gone." Slender eventually told Hoodie.

When Hoodie walked out of the office he almost wanted to run back in. Why would Slender let two kids walk away with the knowledge of where the portal was? It made no sense!

Hoodie felt mocked, like Slenderman kept on dismissing how important this was. It was a portal to Zalgo's! Why was it even in the castle?

As Hoodie looked through the windows he walked passed, in the back of his head he knew he would try to find the actual two students who found it. And they would suffer for having come near it.

The hallway was quiet.
This was a rare occurrence at this hour, but still, you could hear a pin drop, if it would.

No pin dropped though, because everyone who was walking to their next class stopped and froze in fear, not moving an inch as it happened.

Valley as well, clutched her books tightly.
The announcement in their heads had been simple.
It had been expected, but scary nonetheless.

The fights shall be doubled over the next week.

Charley next to her nudged Valley and she nodded. Slowly the hall started moving again, everyone accepting the new terror like they did with each one that came their way anymore.

And as Valley sat in her next class, she knew she wasn't just scared. She was... understanding just how wrong this would go for her and the people around her. She remembered the dark evening, the fresh fallen rain as Toby dragged her away from a murder scene. She didn't want that— this. She didn't want any of this. ...But who was she to fight back? Just one kid with a book.

"Hey!" The proxy ran up to Charley and Valley as they sat in class.

As Valley looked up from how she had been staring up into space, she froze up.

"Pay attention!!" The proxy turned around again before she paused. Slowly, with a sneer, she turned back.
"I'm allowed to hand out more punishments... do you know what that means?"

With wide eyes, Valley realised she did. She did very much.

Charley and she left the class and Valley carefully walked up to Toby. He immediately took her by the arms and shook her, loudly asking why she had done something stupid immediately after the announcement.

Despite her mood, Valley laughed at Toby. Then with a smile she looked up at his caramel brown eyes and admitted it.
"I think I will die soon."

A silence filled between the three as they heard that sentence.

"It's a possibility," Charley mumbled softly, "But... maybe you won't die."

As Toby slowly went to grab Valley's hands, he told her, "You won't die. In fact, I'm going to make sure you walk away drenched in the blood of whoever will be your opponent!"

Valley nodded softly as a shiver went down her spine. She didn't know wether she was ready to die, but the blood... she didn't know.
Then without an invite she gave Toby a giant hug.
"I'm relying on you." And she was.

Toby dropped everything. The other three of their team rolled their eyes at it, but continued on their own as Toby focused on making Valley win, which he knew she had to.

That one day Valley woke up with a weird feeling. As she grabbed her hairbrush she wondered if it would be the last time she'd use it. As she put on her clothes she savoured the comfort of it, hoping she'd feel it again tomorrow.

She wasn't ready to die? But remembering blood in her past...

As Valley ate what could be her last breakfast, she decided that even if she died, she would be ready.

Even if she died, she'd at least have lived a great life.

And so she smiled, assuring Toby that she would try her best to survive.

It would be a game of chance in which she couldn't lose.
