Author's POV:

Toriel had explained to Mella how the RUINS were filled with many puzzles and monsters who would try to attack her. She let Mella practice an encounter with a dummy, which she attempted to talk to, although she was in fact embarrassed afterwards.

There was this one puzzle which shocked her. The floor had been covered with spikes, but luckily Toriel had lead her to the other side with no trouble at all. They had eventually reached a long hallway, which Toriel had quickly ran through. Mella had attempted to keep up, but found Toriel nowhere in sight. In reality, though, she had been hiding behind a pillar, which she revealed once Mella passed it. Afterwards, Toriel had told her she needed to run some errands, and so, Mella stayed in the room, waiting for Toriel to come back.

Mella leaned against the pillar behind her, growing bored. How long had it been since Toriel left? Was she even coming back? Why did she bother to actually listen? Why didn't she just follow Toriel in secret? She sighed, clutching her stomach. She suddenly felt nauseous. She hunched over, vomiting. She hadn't had anything to eat in a while. So, wiping away the vomit on her mouth, she left the room, heading in the direction she saw Toriel go.

She lost track of how many times it took for her to pass the puzzles in the RUINS. She struggled even more with all the monsters she'd run into. She managed to spare each and every one of them, not wishing to harm anyone. She had ran into this one ghost monster who was pretending to sleep. It was in the way, so she ended up entering a battle with the ghost. The name was...Napstablook, maybe? She didn't remember.

Along the way, Mella had taken a piece of 'Monster Candy'. It said to take one, and so she did. She had an urge to take more, but she refused and went back on her way to search for Toriel. She eventually reached a large room with a tree and a small-looking house.

Toriel had walked out of the house and stopped at the tree. She seemed worried about something and had taken her phone out. She was about to call someone, but then she noticed Mella. She let out a breath of relief and quickly went over to Mella. "How did you get here, my child? Are you hurt?" Mella shook her head in response. "I should not have left you alone for so long. It was irresponsible to try to surprise you like this- err.." Mella looked at Toriel in confusion. She then thought back to how Toriel called her and asked if she preferred cinnamon or butterscotch. Maybe that had something to do with the surprise? "Well I suppose I can't hide it any longer. Come, small one!" Toriel turned around and walked back into the house, smiling. Mella followed silently, then stopped.

There was another one of those star things she saw around the RUINS. She hadn't touched any of them yet, but out of curiosity, she did so this time. She reached her hand out to the star, a sound going through her ears.

She shrugged off the strange event and quickly went into the house so Toriel didn't expect anything.
