Author PoV:

You arrive at home at nine at night. You'd just spent your last amount of money at the local IGA to buy the week's groceries, and you were exhausted.

You check the mail, grabbing all the letters and heading inside. Your mom was passed out on the couch, another bottle of alcohol in her hand. You gently close the door behind you, locking it and tiredly stumbling towards the pantry.

You tiredly put away the groceries, barely flinching when Lucifer teleports beside you.

"Hi, Lucifer." You tiredly greet, putting the bread you'd bought in the pantry next to the bottles of random sauces you'd bought to cook with. "You needed anything?" You ask, moving to the fridge to put away the other groceries.

"No, I guess I just got bored." He admits. You nod, not at all bothered by the comment due to the fact that you had about zero friends to base his remark to.

"Yeah, okay. Lemme just finish putting these away." You mumble, fumbling around with the tomatoes, almost dropping and smooshing one of them. You hear Lucifer sigh, crouching down beside you and helping you put away the rest of your store-bought items.

You smile gratefully, gently closing the fridge door once you two had finished putting away your stuff. You tiredly slink upstairs, Lucifer following close behind you.

You open the door to your room, letting Lucifer in. He awkwardly sits on the edge of your bed, looking around. Luckily for you, you'd hidden all your weird knick-knacks in your closet the day before.

"You can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't destroy anything." You give him a small smile as you pull out your only pair of pyjamas from your closet, heading to the bathroom to change and get ready for the night.

You quickly get dressed, your old yet comfortable F/C pyjamas fitting you perfectly - which meant you had to buy a new pair soon before it shrank in the wash again.

You sigh.

You'd been thrust with so many responsibilities at such a young age. And not 'young' as in fifteen or sixteen like most Disney Channel Originals. You'd started this horror movie of a life at age five. Five! You'd learned to clean at that age, learned to wash clothes the next year, and to run errands at age seven.

This monstrous lifestyle had been on for over a decade, and you were getting tired. Don't get me wrong, the life had been sucked out of you long ago, but now you just wanted a break. Nothing suicidal, you don't want it that bad, but you wouldn't mind hibernation.

But now your eyes were dull.

Gone was the excited sheen of a young almost-adult.

You head back to your room, unsure of what to expect or do next. You swing open the door, not bothering your manners. Lucifer had taken his large top hat off, and he was sitting a little less stiffly. Just a little.

It was small changes, but you were glad he wasn't as hostile as he was when you'd first met.

You throw yourself onto your bed, startling Lucifer. He knew you'd been through non-literal hell, but he'd never seen you so tired (both physically and mentally.) You'd always held your composure, holding up a shield and a happy mask but today you just couldn't.

You honestly weren't sure why today specifically.

Your eyes stray to his hat - which was resting on your bedside table. You notice the snake looking at you unnervingly.

"Is the snake real?" You mumble, pointing at the snake. Lucifer glances at it, nodding.

"They usually don't do anything unless I tell them to." He explains. As if to demonstrate, he whispers something to the snake making it springs to life, it slithers over to you and stares curiously.

You smile softly, gently petting the snake's head. The snake relaxes, nuzzling into your hand. Eventually it slithers back to the hat, stiffening once again.

"Why was it you came?" You question quietly, too tired to speak with even a little more volume. He pauses. He wasn't sure if he should tell you about his... situation. He'd just come here out of the top of his head. He didn't even know why, he'd done it almost subconsciously.

He just couldn't bear seeing his cheating wife anymore. But he couldn't divorce, it'd devastate Charlie. He was stuck.

"I..." He sighs. This was too hard to do. Luckily you understood the annoyance of people prying into your business.

"It's fine, no need to tell me." You say sympathetically, giving him a gentle smile. He looks visibly relieved, nodding.

You two continue to chat late into the night, finding out your many similarities until you finally fell asleep. Lucifer left soon after. He felt an odd sense of joy whenever around you.

He felt at ease. To him, you were the best company he'd ever had since Lilith.
