Season 1 Episode 16

Mahira POV

"Where're you going?" Angelo stopped me on the track. Now that I think about it, she does not sound Italian. She recently moved to America, right? She didn't appear Italian, either. "Are you going to stand there and stare at me?" She questioned. All she looked like was a penguin hopping about on her cane.

"Nothing."

"Why the laptop?" Her head gestured toward the open laptop sitting on my left forearm. Prior to her seeing my work, I wanted Xia to view it. I can't bear her going over my darn report like an English teacher grading an essay. My English and grammar weren't great, and Xia had a minor in English, so why not.

"I'm just going to check with Xia on something." After only a few hours of working together, we've already had several arguments. I immediately wanted my office back, and fucking tried to fall in love with her.

"And whatever it is that you are checking with her, you cannot check with me."

I grimaced, loathing the judge's look she was giving me at this lovely time.

"What if I want to check with Xia?"

"Is it related to the report?"

"No," I lied.

"So why would you want to check in with her?" She clapped her hands together as she spoke.

"I'm my own woman. I can do and go wherever I choose. Because I, too, am a floor manager." I elaborated on the visible. I thought she was getting too fucking pushy. I needed to tell her that her current situation is extremely fucking transitory.

"You won't be here long, so don't get too comfortable bossing me about." I smirked. If she was now a permanent employee, not only on this level, but throughout the corporation. Everybody would lose. Most people would leave because living in Los Angeles is so costly; how does she think we'll survive?

"You think so, Ms. Apis. Maybe it's time you sat down and talk to your father."

"He said it was just temporary till I spent my money properly." Which he knows will not happen. He'll have to increase my payment; he wouldn't want his bothersome daughter around him, would he?

"You do not need Xia to check on the report."

Well, I need her. She was not going to evaluate me based on my writing style. She was merely going to rectify it and give me back my laptop.

"What I do to do my task isn't your problem."

"Xia is my personal assistant, not yours."

I glared. I could fight with her all day and probably end up getting railed with half my body hanging from her desk, or I could simply spin on my heels and bolt out the door.

She can't walk that quickly.

"Watch me exit this door; you can't stop or catch me."

"Don't you dare!" She hissed and reached for her cane, but I was already out the door, headed down to Xia's office. She wasn't hot on my trail, but she was hopping behind me with her cane, pounding hard on the floor.

"Hi, Xia." I barged in on her, and she appeared surprised as the stack of printing paper tumbled from her grasp. Not concerned about the mess. I pushed her over to her desk. I put my laptop down.

"Could you kindly go over this for me?"

Her brow wrinkled, perhaps wondering what the fuss was about. But she was about to find out when Angelo walked in and slammed my laptop screen down. I scowled at her. "That laptop cost more than you earned in your whole life." I exclaimed. retracting the screen.

"I don't give a crap."

Xia looked between us. "Xia, please go bring me my lunch from the restaurant."

I wailed, clutching Xia, who was about to do her bidding. It was not yet time for lunch. She simply wants to spite me. I swear to God that I despise this lady, and I despise how much my pussy want her later on when the floor was vacant.

"Stay; I asked you first."

"Okay, I'll just—"

"If you even peek at a word in that stinking report, you're fired." Angelo warned. I could feel my ears becoming hot and inflamed as my frustration swelled.

"I got here first. Furthermore, you are scaring the girl." I responded, glancing at a troubled Xia. This job was her life. She didn't have a part in the firm or family to turn to for assistance. "You actually just care for yourself."

"If she loses this job, it will be your responsibility. Because I told you I'd help with the report."

"I don't need your filthy assistance. I'm not excellent at writing, and I don't need your nasty critique."

"You have to be criticized to learn." She shouted.

"And I do not need a stick to walk." I mused.

"Xia, go fetch me some lunch. You have 20 minutes. The time start now." her snarled of command came.

"I apologize." Xia muttered as she slipped out of my arms and walked out the door.

I turned towards Angelo. "Why do you expect me to rely on you so much? Huh?"

"I want you to be independent. Figure things out on your own."

"Why don't you learn to fucking walk and be independent without the stick, before you offer life advice to anybody else."

"Your words cannot damage me." She replied, her eyes sparking with pain. It clearly pained her. I was convinced she wasn't born with a disability, but something happened that she probably wanted to forget about.

But because she won't leave me alone, I won't either.

"There's nothing but facts. And everyone, including you, is aware of this."

"Well, I hope you're aware that $2,000 has been withdrawn from your account. So, continue to be a bitch." She hissed and passed me, shoveling her cane on the top of my foot.

"Ouch!"

"You deserved it." She snarled as well as pointed her cane at me.
