Year 1:
The train was packed and Harry couldn't find an empty compartment until the very end of the train sliding into the small room. A minute later after harry settled down he noticed movement outside. Peeking out the window Harry noticed a boy his age wincing under the glare from an imposing figure. Maybe his father? The boy's white hair shone in the fluorescent lights as his father released his grip on his arm. The boy's father walked away leaving the boy to compose himself.
"Hey can I join you? The other compartments are full." Harry looked up seeing a red haired boy in the compartment door. As he waved him in Harry couldn't help but notice the white haired boy's absence from the platform. 'He must have gotten on the train' Harry thought, slightly disappointed.
Year 4:
Why do I always get on the train late! Bloody traffic. Sighing Harry slides into the emptiest compartment he can see with only one person in it. The figure is staring out the window his hair gelled to perfection. By the time Harry takes a good look at who he's sharing the room with the train starts moving. Great. Draco Malfoy. The one and only who his friends hated. Honestly Harry didn't hate him all that much he couldn't bring himself too. He was drawn to him.
Draco lost in thought finally looks up his eyes slightly clouded. He sits up straight eyes slightly widening at Harry. questioning him. Those eyes.
"The other compartments are full sorry." Harry says automatically not really knowing what he's apologizing for. Draco seems to deflate slightly as he nods his head in understanding. 'Did he want me to sit in here? No dont be silly Harry.'
Harry eyed Draco, great the last thing he wanted was to be ridiculed. Still despite his hesitation Harry had to ask. The boy in front of him didn't seem to be his normal self. Draco usually took any chance he could get to make fun of Harry but he seemed deflated, worried and most worryingly, silent.
"Are you ok?" The words were out of Harry's mouth before he realized what he was saying. Draco's eyes bore into Harry searching.
Then he winced turning back to the window and stared outside muttering, "Fine."
"Clearly." Harry muttered not completely sure why he wasn't leaving the situation alone, "your so 'fine' you haven't said a word in jest since i walked in here, so 'fine' that your supporting an obviously injured arm and you tried to use a concealment charm to hide a bruise on your cheek. Malfoy you're obviously not fine." Draco stared at him.
"Particularly observant today Potter aren't you." Was all Draco said in response.
Harry was furious. Not at Draco but at whoever had hurt him. Harry recalled the scene of Draco's father yelling at him from his first year. Without thinking Harry switched seats in the compartment coming to rest next to Draco.
"Let me see." Harry said gently resting a hand on Draco's injured arm. He jerked away from Harry's touch, sending a terrified glance to the windows that open to the trains hallway. Anyone could walk by and see them. Sighing Harry stood up closing the blinds to the compartment.
"Better?" Harry whispered into the silent room. Draco nodded imperceptibly never taking his eyes off Harry. Slowly walking over to Draco Harry felt as if he was approaching a scared animal. 'A wild scared animal that wants to bite your head off is more accurate' Harry corrected himself.
Harry gently took Draco's arm peeling back the robe revealing a nasty cut. Harry noticed ointment residue and the sharp intake of breath from Draco when his sleeve was lifted.
"How bad does it hurt?" Harry asked gingerly setting Draco's arm back on his lap. But Draco just shook his head visibly palling. "Draco?" Harry whispered.
