Leaving town with Klaus had been the worst summer of Brooke's life so far

Leaving town with Klaus had been the worst summer of Brooke's life so far. Klaus was on a rampage to begin to sire his own race of hybrids, but to do that he needed werewolves which weren't easy to find. Thus, he had dragged Stefan and Brooke across the USA to help him search which had proved futile so far.

What was even worse for Brooke was watching how Klaus had turned Stefan into his own little ripper vampire playmate, and there was nothing she could do to stop him.

Right now they were in Tennessee tracking a pack of wolves, and once again Brooke was being used by Klaus as his decoy to get some information.

They had followed their last trail to this house deep in the suburbs, and Brooke watched from the tree line as one of the women who lived there finally emerged.

"Rudy!" she shouted after her dog "Rudy! Come on. It's too hot to make me come looking for you"

Sharing a nod, Klaus and Brooke emerged then, and she jumped when she saw them.

"I am so sorry. We didn't mean to scare you" Brooke said with a fake smile

The girl frowned. "Can I help you?"

Klaus nodded, and then laid on the worst American accent Brooke had ever heard. "Yeah, our, uh, our car ran out of gas a couple miles back. I feel like we've been walking forever. Yours is the first house we'd come to, so I was just hoping we could use your phone"

She narrowed her eyes. "Don't you have a cell phone?"

He chuckled "Yeah. Battery died, and my wife lost hers."

The woman didn't look convinced, and maybe it was because of the unhappiness on Brooke's face when Klaus called her his wife. So she said "Look, I promise we're not serial killers. We just want to use your phone"

She nodded then. "Sure"

Klaus grinned. "So...We can come in?"

"No. I'll get the phone and I'll bring it out to you" she replied

Klaus's happy facade dropped. "I thought you country folks were supposed to be more trusting"

"I'm from Florida" she bit back

Klaus smirked. "Well, that explains it" He grabbed her by the neck and compelled her "Now show us a little Southern hospitality... Sweet pea"

The woman nodded mindlessly. "You can come in" she muttered and led the two of them back to the house where she lived.

The two vampires crossed the threshold and found another woman in the kitchen. "I bet you a hundred dollars that dog ran off to a house with air conditioning" she said seemingly to her friend, but turned around when she was met with silence, seeing Brooke and Klaus too, her sobbing friend with them. "What's going on?"

"Please don't be alarmed." said Klaus coldly "I'm told Ray Sutton lives here"

She shook her head. "He's almost never here. He's on the road mostly"
