Chaspter 1 fine & frugal

It all happened so quickly. What would you do if your life tumbled down so quickly one bad decision, one phone call you wished you had ignored maybe and only maybe then none of these bad fowl things would happen. No death, no fake money, and a happy family.

I was working in the diner with my moms best friend Ruby when my mom and aunt walked in looking upset to say the least I walked up to the table in the middle of the conversation.
"And she was only halfway through my wax." my mom said

"So what happened?"  Ruby replied

" Well, now I'm very uneven."

"Okay.
I don't even want to know." I quickly jumped in pouring coffee in my mothers mug before taking the seat beside her in the booth Anne and Rubby sat across from us

"Dean maxed out their credit card at some lingerie store." My aunt blurted out without thinking her eyes widened in realization.

"EWW I dont need to know what my mom and my dad are into" Then realization hit me our walls are Paper thin I havent heard a thing since before my yougest sister was born "Wait" I muttered my voice  just above a whisper

" Do you think he's sleeping around?" My mom said I was heart broken that she would even suggest that but its probably right he has been distant for a while always working late and going on quote on quote "business trips"

"Don't nobody want Dean." My aunt chuckled

"Maybe It's a Christmas gift."Ruby said trying to reason with my mother and give me hope.
"In October?" My mom said solemly

"Maybe it's your anniversary present." Anne said catching on the theme that this should not be discussed infront of me

"He already gave me 100 coupons to Bed Bath & Beyond." My mom replied

"Ew, really?" Ruby said

"Son of a bitch." I chimed in glancing over and seeing a old man eyeing rubys tip jar
" No, I really do love it there." my mom said with a smile I loved to watch her smile to see her smile but this isnt about her.

"No, that old guy is stealing your tip." I said to Ruby pointing with my eyes

" He can't even walk Nova." ruby said her voice laced in skepticism

"Go get it." Anne said looking over and realizing the same thing I was

Ruby walked over to her tip jar the old man reached for her tip jar just as he was about to grab it she snatched it. She walked to the table in disbelif placing the jar on the table sliding back in to her seat. " Shady S.O.B."

"At my old job we got robbed all the time" I said like it was nothing "so I got the sixth sense now."

"Are you serious?" My mom said disappointed she never liked that I worked since I was young I wasnt biologically theirs they adopted me when I was only 13 after they couldnt have a baby. I started my first job when I was nine I needed to proved for my family I was the oldest sibling and needed to be responsible. When I got taken away I didnt understand why even though my mom was a addict the street life is all I knew being taken and put in a white suburban naberhood and having to move schools it was ruff. I ditched school to work I complained a lot about how they werent my real parents and I wanted my mom. I still miss her sometimes late at night.
" I mean it's no big deal." I replied nonchalant I never told beth what happened before she adopted me Im sure my tails of what happened down in south detroit would give her a heart attack I continued on noticeing how the focus was off dean i never really called him my dad because he never really acted like one he was kind of disgusted by me. "All the stores I work at eventually get hit."
