As soon as Yale entered the house, there were plates crashing and bottles sloshing across the floor, accompanied by ranged voices.
Yale's mother, Anzi angrily yelled, "Get out of this house! I don't wanna see you again. You're so useless bastard, go with your multiple women! Damn you, Alejandro." Anzi's neck veins showed signs of extreme rage.
As he was hefting his luggage, Alejandro shot back, "Damn you, too. Don't ever ask for my help on the expenses of your children!"
Alejandro then added, "You can't survive without me, Anzi!" as he hurried to the door, causing Yale to move aside and make room for his stepfather.
Anzi throws a pair of slippers at Alejandro in retaliation. "I don't need your damn help!"
As their neighbors watched, Anzi quickly closed the doors.
Conversely, Yale sighed deeply because she already knew what would happen—that they would come back again, for sure—and that her mother would beg Alejandro to return because that is the foolish mindset her mother possesses.
"Lie again, mom. You indeed can't survive without him."
"What did you just say!?" Yale didn't reply to the question but ultimately got a hard slap from her mother.
"Don't criticize my life when yours is a mess too," Anzi yelled at her daughter, causing Yale to completely dumbfounded.
Yale was already prepared for this; her mother treats Alejandro better than anything else, even more so than a treasure. While her mother treats her like a stranger, not her own daughter.
Which is why she will never believe in love, her mother can attest to this.
Following the incident, Yale went to her upstairs room to study for her impending finals tomorrow, but she lacked the bravery to do so after seeing that scene.
With a sigh, Yale lay down on her bed.
Observing the statement she had scrawled on the wall, "Don't let emotions stop you from getting that degree."
Without further ado, she spent the entire night studying in order to ace the test and lead the life she deserves.
Yale grinned after finishing the final exam, knowing she had done well on it.
She had no idea that she would run into a man who would fundamentally alter her life when she was staring up at the sky.
Yale said, "I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking." But she didn't hear anything that would have told her to turn to face the man.
Yale was aware that he was giving her a full stare, as if he were staring into her soul.
"Oh my goodness. What did I deserve to see this kind of beauty today." The man said who left Yale in disbelief.
Unknowingly to Yale, a man by the name of Theodore had turned her life into a rainbow.
Yale never knew that there could be love until Theodore made her laugh every day, showed her that he cared for her, gave her the confidence she needed, and accepted all of her imperfections and fears.
Who wouldn't think that a disorganized woman could find the kind of love that all people have only ever imagined?
But as the years go by and their love deepens, a secret is meant to destroy and put their love to the test.
With the city lights visible through their condo unit's large windows, Yale started crying. She only learned about Theodore's extremely painful secret today.
