I left the shop with the cauldrons I had made float in the air with magic and went to the clothes shop. Hogsmeade was almost empty. Only the voices of the shopkeepers and a few people could be heard. I needed to buy clothes for Draco, Kylie and myself. But there was a problem. I was unfortunately the smallest of my friends, and buying clothes bigger than my height - especially for Draco - would attract too much attention. Somehow I had to do the shopping quickly and get back to school. As I was picking up a few pieces of clothing, another customer walked into the store. It must have been someone the shopkeeper knew because he ran to the door and started talking to the person.
I turned my head and looked at the door. I immediately hid behind one of the shop windows with the person I saw. What was he doing here? I had never seen him go out when school had just started, had he seen me come in? My head was full of questions. He was looking around and looking for me, as if he sensed me hiding here. I was torn between hiding and coming out. I considered both possibilities. Hiding was the more logical choice. My hiding place was not very high, but I had broken my knees and I had shrunk. After a few minutes of talking, he came out. I took a deep breath, I was saved. I had to get the clothes and go back to Hogwarts, it was already getting dark. Going back to school so late was like walking through hell knowing you'd get burned.
I had spent the Malfoys' galleons that I had acquired thanks to Draco, but they still had a lot of wealth and there was hardly any loss. I paid for the clothes I had chosen and left the shop. I had enchanted all the items so I could walk freely. This time I used the spell 'Alahomora' to enter Honeydukes. Unaware of a pair of eyes on me I entered quietly and returned to the school the way I had come. By the time I arrived it was already dark and the school was quiet. Everyone was asleep, but the students on duty were patrolling, so it was only a matter of time before I caught someone. Still, I didn't care about anything and made my way to the stairs to go down to the dungeons. Just then I heard footsteps and stopped moving.
With every step the person was getting closer to me. I hid my things behind one of the statues, just in case. I would find a way out of this. I always did. 'It's okay, Berry, relax.' Inwardly I braced myself for him and dispersed my thoughts. Yes, I was not wrong. As I expected, he was walking towards me, holding his glowing wand. The paintings, disturbed by the light, woke up and muttered angrily. Finally, he came closer and left a distance of 2-3 steps between us and examined me carefully. Hell itself was now in front of me. With his emerald green eyes, he was scrutinizing me and trying to figure out who I was. He glanced at the Slytherin crest on my chest and finally met my eyes. "What are you doing here at this hour?" His full questioning voice was communicating directly with me for the first time. His voice squeezed my heart and made me feel excited.
To be honest, I didn't expect this to be the first question he asked. His questioning gaze showed that he was more curious about who I was and why he didn't know me. He was good at hiding his feelings, but I was a good analyst too. His eyes were trying to understand me and his posture made it clear that he saw me as a threat. "I'm going to the common room." He frowned at my answer, "No, I'm watching the owls." I had to hold myself back from laughing at what I said. My casual and nonchalant answer seemed to bother him. "You're not supposed to be out during curfew hours. I can deduct points from your building." This would have made me laugh if we hadn't been in a tense situation. "From your own building?" He got even angrier. "I wonder if the chicks would be so cute if they were black and not yellow?" I shifted my thoughts to other topics. He was looking at me as if he could send an Avada Kedavra spell at any moment. He could cast it if he wanted and I would respond.
He took a step towards me. I stood still and waited to see what he would do. We were on school grounds and he knew that if he made a scene, everything would go wrong. So he couldn't cause trouble. I was about to open his mouth and say something when I heard footsteps approaching us. I turned to see Dumbledore pacing the corridor, wand in hand. "Ah, Berry, how are you? Settled in?" Then he turned toward him and said, in a different tone from the one he had given me, "Oh Tom, what are you doing here? You're not supposed to leave your post." I was surprised at what Professor Dumbledore had said, how had this old geezer remembered my name? "We're just settling in a bit, sir. I think this student thought I was lost and came to help me. I'm glad you remembered my name, by the way." Dumbledore laughed lightly, as if I had said something very funny. "It's the name of one of my favorite fruits. Of course, it's impossible to forget a transfer student from Ilvermorny." I smiled and looked at Tom Riddle, whose suspicious eyes were still on me. You'll be looking for more, Tom Riddle, but remember that the Lords don't always win, especially against someone with God's blessing.
I knew that from now on I would always have Tom Riddle's gaze on me. Tom Riddle, who was always good at hiding his emotions, now had every emotion written all over his face. How pathetic. "Good night, professor. Thank you for worrying about us." Dumbledore winked at me, and only he and I understood what that meant. "Good night, Berry. Don't forget to attend classes tomorrow with Draco and Kylie. It'll be a bit of a challenge, but you'll get used to it. Don't be afraid of new things." I nodded at his words and walked past Tom Riddle, thank you professor. Thank you, my dear comrade. You know you will always be with me and I will always be with you. I have never returned a favor and I never will.
