There is a small town in Mississippi by the name of Walnut. There you will find the worst kind of people. From crack heads, murderers, rapists, all the way to drug addicts. This sleepy town, in the past few years had made a name for it self for the murder of two individuals who shall not be named.
There was a young man who lived there, 19 in fact by the name of Jimmy Whitehaven. Jimmy came from a poor family who struggled hard to pay the bills and just barely had enough weekly earnings to support themselves with food. Jimmy was a Caucasian male with icy blue eyes a medium build and short brown curly hair. That boy was me and this is my story. The school year had ended for me and I was sleeping when all of a sudden I heard it *RING RING RING* suddenly awoken I picked up the phone and heard a calm female voice say "Hello, is this Jimmy uhh... Whitehaven?" She struggled with her words as if she was looking at a long list of names. "Yes." I answered wondering who called. "This is Shirley." The woman answered. "I was calling to let you know that you need to come into your orientation today at 1:30" I checked my phone for the time and saw it was already 12:30 P.M. I brushed the covers off of me and with a tired voice I said "Thank you I'll be there soon!" The woman gave a ok and hung up.
I sat there, dumbfounded because for the past few weeks I doubted that I would get the job. It was just a measly job at McDonald's but any jobs a job I suppose. I got out of bed and I gathered myself, putting on my only good pair of jeans. They were very worn, as I had have them over the past year, they were a gift to me from my late grandfather who passed away just a week after he had given then to me. After I had taken a shower I got my keys and hopped into my truck, it was a shabby old one but it got the job done, I was on my way to good ole mcdonalds.
Once I arrived I searched for the nearest parking place and found a small one between two other vehicles. I carefully inched my vehicle into the parking place and I turned my engine off took a drink of my coke and lit up a quick cigarette to calm my nerves. After I was finished with the cig I got out of the vehicle and walked into the "Golden Archway to Hell" as I would call it, I saw about 4 other people about my age there, I hypothesized that they got the job too. These 4 people looked normal and average to me but two of them stood out. One of them was Caucasian with a medium skin tone and long black curly hair with a beard to go with it, he looked like a total dickhead, little did I know he would become my bestfriend. The other one was tan skinned, black haired, he was a Mexican! I shared looks at my fellow workers some of them had looks of disgust at the worn clothes I was wearing but I brushed it off and just said "fuck it." In my head.
All of a sudden I heard that female voice I had heard on the phone earlier say "Welcome to McDonald's new workers! Today we will be discussing your employee rules and regulations!"
She took out a thick ass stack of papers and had a employee by her side that had pens just in case one of us needed one. Unfortunately it took about 3 hours to complete the paperwork (thank God we were getting paid for it)
but we managed. She started asking us employees to tell her about ourselves and sat a 2 minute timer just to be sure she thought she knew enough about us.
She went through everybody, they all shared stories of their life and most of them had pretty good ones, I was hating every second that it got closer for me to tell mine. "The spotlight is on you Mr.Whitehaven" ms. Shirley said. The other employees laughed at my name but I just ignored it. "Well, my name is Jimmy Whitehaven. I live in Walnut, Missisippi. I love to go fishing and hunting and I love hanging with my friend Tyler, I've been living here for about 10 years here I guess, we had to move here because of city taxes in Memphis and even still it's hard so I had to get a job so I could help support my family and have some cash in my wallet I guess." "Alright then" she said. "All of you will begin work tomorrow morning 8 A.M. Sharp!" And with that I left and went home.
