winona lola pov:
"welll get ready because mom and dad want to have breakfast at their house in like an hour." joey tells me as he walks away from me.
i nod looking down at myself, what to wear?

i write a to do list for myself.
- make bed / shower / makeup
- outfit / jeans, converse, whatever shirt
- finish "mercy" a painting about joe.
still thinking about him..
25 minutes later —
"nicky when did you get here? with joey?" i ask as i walk past him.
getting my purse together. silence.
i lean against the island in my kitchen. joey and his girlfriend, amanda, both confused. so am i.
"nick?" i scoff.
"i heard joe talked to you." he says, looking down at his phone.
i avoid looking at joey, who's now just as mad as my other brother.

flashback : 2019 / joe's party : AFTER getting caught:
"dad okay! i get it!" i sit on the guest bed as my family yells at me.
"this is a nice party! nice! and there you are undressing him in his downstairs bathroom!" my mom yells.
"oh stop! it's not all my fault! he brought me in there! he kissed me, HE unclipped-"
"STOP! STOP- don't." nick yells.
nick never yells. never even exclaims. but everyone goes still as he stands up. looking away from us.
"you are never going to speak to him again, alone. okay?" nick says.
i roll my eyes, i stand up. "god, i'm an adult."
"then act like one." he looks at me.
— after that, nick and i did not speak for a while. and i did not try to get intimate with another person because your dad walking in on your first attempt at a handjob — is extremely humbling.
i kept my promise to nicky and didn't talk to joe alone.

present day:
"yeah he did, but only about the trade and his housing situation. that's all, and i'm past a lot of it. okay, i'm sorry i didn't tell you but it just happened today." i walk over to nick.
he stands up and breaths out, "i don't appreciate him calling you — but i trust you. let's go to breakfast." he smiles.

but i have a sinking feeling in my chest that im not past it.
and i have an inkling that right now even though nick is smiling at me, he knows too.
