WORD COUNT : ~450He stands next to the open coffin, the cold breeze of early June blowing right through him. He knew the day was coming, but did he think it was going to be so soon? He stares at the girl's emotionless, pale face. She looked beautiful in that dress, even in death. He knows somebody is calling him but he can't move to respond.
He can only respond to *her*.
The room is dark, the only light from the movie that was ending, the couple was cuddled up on the couch, enjoying their date when the boy checks the time, its late. He gets up and puts on his shoes, kissing the girl goodbye and heading home. Shoot, he left his jacket at her house. He sent her a text to let her know he was coming back and when she didn't respond, he thought that she was asleep already.
An hour later, he is knocking on her door. She doesn't respond. He tries again. Nothing. He gets out his spare key and unlocks the door.
Then he knew why she wasn't answering.
The boy was face to face with his girlfriends hanging body, she was already losing her color, the only sign of life being the slight twitch in her fingers. The boy calls 911 and in an attempt to save her, he cuts the rope from around her neck, bringing her down gently.
Her neck is purple and bruised and she has deep gashes on her wrist.
She wasn't breathing. She had no pulse. She was.. gone.
The paramedics arrived to see the boy hunched over the girl, crying and holding the blade in his hand. They pulled him off and tried to save her. But she was gone. They couldn't save her.
They gave the boy her last letter.
"Stay for me" it says "Love from heaven"
The boy had never cried so hard, he didn't want to stay if she didn't. He wanted her here.
The sirens begin to fade as the boy sobs, and he is back at the funeral.
"Tiego, we have to let others see her" his mother is next to him, her hand is on his shoulder. He could feel the salty tears running down his cheeks, he wiped them away and nodded "may I say one last thing to her?" The boy asks, sniffling.
"Yes, ill be over there." He watches as she walks away."Im not living without you, ill see you soon, Catherine." He smiles through his tears and with that, he leaves.
