"Eris!" my mom shouts from my bedroom door. She marches toward my bed and shakes me up. "You're going to be late."
"Fiiiiiiiine," I groan and sit up. She exits my room, closing the door behind her and I get out of bed to get dressed. I decide on a plain black longsleeve, ripped baggy jeans, a wine red shortsleeve, and black Converse. I run to the bathroom to grab a hairbrush and quickly brush my hair. I put it into a half-up, half-down style, grab my phone from the counter, and run downstairs.
"Hey mom!" I wave, and notice an absence of annoying presence in the room. "Where's Noah?"
"Hi! He left before I woke you up, told us he wanted to see his friends early today," Comet, one of my moms, replies. "Ooh! Happy Valentine's Day!" She hands me a chocolate cupcake with red frosting on it and I gladly take it. "Thanks!" I give her a hug before grabbing my bag off of the kitchen table and turning towards the door. "I need to go to school now," I smile and open the door. "Byeee!" "See you later!" I exit my house, locking the door behind me.
I rush to the street corner where we, Alex, Socks, Diana, Fern, and I, usually meet up. Socks' name isn't actually Socks, but it's a fun name we call him, and he seems okay with it.
"Hey guys! My apologies for being late, I did not want to wake up this morning." I sigh. "No worries! I didn't either," Alex laughs. The statement was clearly true, considering she still had that morning rasp to her voice. It should go away about ten minutes from now.
We start walking to school and I turn my bag over my torso and begin digging through it. Papers, papers, books... "There you are!" I take out a small plastic bag and pour five Reese's Peanut Butter Cups into my free hand. "Early valentines for you guys." I toss the first one to Diana. The next to Socks. Then Fern. I toss the last one to Alex, but unfortunately, she wasn't paying attention. It hits her in the shoulder and falls to the pavement, right in between her shoes.
"Sorry!" I wince. "It's fine," she leans over and gives me a kiss on my cheek, then glances down at the chocolate in her hand. "Still in the wrapping isn't it?" We all laugh. "Happy Valentine's Day, guys," Diana sighs. "Happy Valentine's Day," the rest of us say in unison, and we continue our walk to school.
