A young girl with pigtails had her head tucked into a book. She was shy, swotty and had a little round face with chubby cheeks. A young boy was watching her from afar, his name was Avenelle-Jérôme Rouge, but his big sister and her friends back in France called him Nelly. He liked that. He had glasses and bright blue eyes, with a slight purple glow to them in the right lighting.

He hid his face behind the first thing he found on the table, opened at a random page. It turned out to be a book on how animals mate. He was also holding it upside down. He scolded himself inside his head, but then reassured himself that all that mattered was that the girl didn't see him. He moved the hardback down slightly, and glanced at the girl. He didn't know why, but he wanted to look at her. Then look at her again, and again.

She wasn't exactly 'beautiful' to the common eye, she had dark blonde hair and grey-green eyes. But she looked kind. He thought she was going to be a nice person. He had no real evidence of this, he just knew it. He could sense it.

Then she saw him.

And she laughed.

Her face illuminated, highlighting every feature of her round face. There were slight dimples in her cheeks and the unique colour of her eyes sparkled. The sound of her giggling was like music to Nelly's ears, so sweet, innocent and carefree.

She had the prettiest smile in the entire world.

He didn't even know who this girl was. He certainly didn't have a crush on her! Every boy knew that girls were gross and who knew what disgusting diseases they had? All apart from his big sister, though. She was a pain in the backside but she wasn't a proper girl!

Girls were silly, but maybe this one wasn't. She had such a calm expression, and she was plump, so she probably gave great hugs! Nelly hoped they ended up in the same classes. He really did.
