My 21st birthday is one for the record books. The best actually. It didn't start out that way, but it got there eventually. I made plans to go club hopping with Logan, Isla, and her girlfriend Darla. Just good friends, good food, good fun, nonstop dancing, a little drinking, and my birthday present Logan was so excited to give me.

A week before my big day, my dad called and asked if I would come home to celebrate with him like old times. And by old times he meant playing board games that I inevitably beat him in every single year. At the time, I thought it was a strange way to spend my 21st birthday. I just knew my dad was trying to prevent me from going on a drinking binge since I was becoming legal. He just didn't know his baby girl had been getting twisted for years by then. I'm a lightweight so really all it takes is two drinks, but you get it.

What was surprising was how eager Logan was to go to LA to spend my birthday playing board games with my dad and Gwen. It had been a long while since he and I went back to LA. After that past winter break we needed a reprieve. Things were going along smoothly for us at Langston and I wanted to keep it that way. Lo had other plans and claimed he wanted to see my dad because they had some things to talk about. I thought it was a ploy to get back to LA so he could get up with Colt and engage in some troublemaking. Still, I went ahead and agreed to spend my birthday in LA because my dad never asked for much and I didn't want to disappoint him.

We got to LA the day before my birthday and dad immediately took Lo outside to work on his car. That took all day. Then they went for a drive, which I assumed was to test drive Logan's handiwork. They were gone so long I fell asleep waiting for them. I woke up annoyed as hell at not having spent any time with my dad and no time with my man. What was the reason? Like why ask me to come here only to spend an entire day with each other? Whatever they were up to had better be worth it.

The morning of my birthday I spent some time with my forever besties Riya and Darius. I missed them and whether we talk every other month or not, I love them always. They took me out for a birthday brunch that Logan arranged. It was like he really wasn't trying to spend any time with me. I was pissed at first, but the mimosa flight I had at brunch made everything better. I was noice by the time I got home and no longer cared what he was up to.

When I walked through the front door I was greeted by pink, white, and rose gold balloons suspended in the air covering the entire ceiling in the living room. A Neapolitan colored three tier spice cake with a gold 21 on top sat proudly in the center of the table. All around it was a variety of delicious smelling street food. Which could only mean one thing. Lo got his 'cousin' Vaughn to cater. I was pleasantly surprised by the way everyone pitched in to put this together for me. It was so sweet and meant so much. At that moment I felt bad for being bothered by Lo and dad ignoring me. This was totally worth it and my heart was full.

Lo, dad, and Gwen flanked me all at once hugging and kissing me. Wishing me a happy 21st birthday.

"Thankss guysss." My words slurred. "Everything is soo beautiful. The cake, the foood. Everything lookss soo good. I love y'all soo much."

Pulling me into another hug, Lo laughed. "Somebody had fun at brunch."

"I really did." I giggled. "Thank you."

Dad beamed. "You're welcome baby, but Logan put all this together."

"Logaan, I can't believe you did all this." Happy tears filled my eyes. "This is everything. The amount of effort you put into making this day extra special for me is one of the many reasons I love you." I hugged him tighter. "I love the way you love me."
