Once in a Nightlight

Chapter 27 - Brotherly Mischief

The Nightlight siblings run off with Colt leading ahead, their parents watching them closely from the entrance of the nursery.

Toothless was worrisome watching his offspring bound off by themselves, and didn't entirely trust them to explore on their own yet. 

Cloudjumper, Toothless' second in command, landed next to him and tucked his mighty wings to his sides.

"Cloud." Toothless leaned a little closer to him. "Can you keep an eye on them for me? I don't want them getting into any trouble with Colt, he's a wild one." 

"Sure thing." Cloudjumper untucked his wings and took off to the sky, observing the three heirs and Colt from a birds eye view.

Toothless sits there feelings antsy when Dart and her brothers finally disappear out of his view, and Luna shakes her head with a little smile, approaching from behind to sit against his side.

"Has the overprotective father instinct finally kicked in?" She joked with a smile, nuzzling under his chin. "They'll be fine, love. We've told them countless times where they can and can't go. I'm sure Colt is responsible enough to show them around."

"I know, I know.." Toothless murmurs with a twitch of his nose. "It's just worrisome when they aren't with you."

"I know, I feel it too." Luna nuzzles him again. "But with each experience comes a lesson and I'm sure they're going to learn a lot with Colt. Besides, it's just for now, I'm sure they wouldn't want us hovering over their every step while Colt is trying to give them the grand tour of this place."

"You're right. Cloudjumper is keeping an eye on them anyways, he won't let them get into... Too much trouble." Toothless chuckles to himself and stands back up, nudging Luna against her shoulder and turning. "Come on, we have things to do around here." And with that the King bounds off with Luna, putting their every faith in Cloudjumper and Colt.

"Come onnn slowpokes!" Colt was running ahead of them, bounding along the crystal slopes that led upwards until he skid to a stop just at the edge.

Dart was running ahead of her brothers, rolling her eyes at the Lightfury hatchling ahead of her. "I'm not the slow one, dingus, it's them!"

Pouncer and Ruffrunner were trying to playfight while they were running, and inevitably ended up rolling their way up the slope and almost falling right off the edge.

Before the brothers could fall to their inevitable doom both Dart and Colt snagged their little fangs into their tailfins to hold them up with shocked gasps.

"You mouse-brains!" Dart snarls through a mouthful of Pouncer's tail, "You're damn lucky Colt is here otherwise Ruffrunner would have gone splat on the ground!"

"Thanks, Colt." Ruffrunner says from where he dangles in the Lightfury's jaws, and slowly the pair hoisted up the brothers onto safe ground where they stood far away from the edge of the slope.

"This is definitely one of my favorite spots, you can overlook so many things here! Like your father's crystal pillar over there, and the nurseries, and all of the dens in the walls."  Colt excitedly exclaimed to the siblings who were watching with awe.

"You can even see our den from here!" Dart exclaims excitedly,

"Mine too!" Colt laughs and so does Dart, while the two hatchlings behind them grumble and groan.

"Can we go and see something cooler? Like the pool of crystals? Glow-worm grotto? The skulls of the Bewilderbeasts?"

"Father said we shouldn't go to the skulls of Bewilderbeasts. It's crawling with Deathgrippers." Ruffrunner warns Pouncer who scratches at one of his nubs.
