A memorable night indeed.

Barty felt his eyes getting hazy and his head ached from the amount of information he had consumed in the last two hours.

School was always easy for him, though he never felt like it was enough. He'd study harder, longer, and achieve the best always. Or it was for nothing.

That's the thing about Barty Crouch Jr, he wanted to win.

The sound of the common room door opening caught his attention. It was late- Regulus still hadn't come back from the library and Crouch was growing irritated. When he saw James Potter walk in with Dorcas Meadowes he felt a wave of relief. He was satisfied knowing Reggie wasn't with the Gryffindor, yet he was irritated at the sight of the bloke.

The two had been competing for Regulus Black's attention for months now. Barty had thought he held the upper hand, with being intimate with Regulus first- but James and Reggie's relationship seemed much more deep and romantic. Barty felt Black slipping through his fingers.

He'd lose.

"Reg should be back from studying soon, he normally never stays out this long." Dorcas explained to Potter as the two made their way deeper into the room.

"That's alright Meadowes, I don't mind waiting." Potter replied cheerfully. Dorcas nodded in reply, climbing the stairs towards her dorm and leaving James to himself.

The wizard stepped towards the couches noticing Barty and stopping in his place.

"Potter." Barty greeted as he continued to scribe down information on a parchment.

James coughed nervously, taking a seat on the couch beside him despite the plentiful amount of empty seats. "Crouch."

A heavy silence filled the air. Barty didn't seem to notice as much as James. The Gryffindor normally filled the silence with his charismatic charm and cheesy jokes, yet in this moment he sat quietly while bouncing his leg.

"Could you quit moving, its highly distracting." Barty sighed when he had enough of the persistent disturbance.

James looked confused at first, then it clicked in his head what he was doing. The movement was involuntary and purely anxiousness seeping through him physically.

"I didn't think you'd care about that sort of thing." James pointed out.

Barty looked down at his study materials then back up at James.

"My required lesson work? You didn't think I- the top student in this school- would care about revising?" Barty countered.

James cocked a brow.
"I thought Evans was the top student?"

Barty let out a long a chilling laugh.
"Ah she wishes."

"I only meant that, you seem very... anti authority." James explained further.

Barty snapped his book shut, looking James in the eye. "To go against authority you have to be smarter than said authority. Always be smarter than your enemies Potter, or you'll never have the upper hand."

James seemed as if he was thinking about the words, truly processing them instead of his usual quick remark. "I doubt I'll ever be smarter than you Crouch, but Im certain I could beat you in a thing or two."

This made Barty angry, all self control was out the window now. "Excuse me? You want to elaborate on that Potter?"

James noted the agitation in Barty's voice, finally causing a smile on the Gryffindor's face.
"Don't get your knickers in a twist Crouch, I only meant that-"

Barty stood up, standing in front of James with his arms crossed and a very pointed expression on his face. "No- I want you to name one fucking thing you are better at. Name one."

James smiled bigger, knowing he had gotten to the Slytherin. "Well, if you really would like to know. Regulus had pointed out that I'm a better kisser than you."

Barty was shocked, angry yet silent.
"I don't believe you." He said plainly.

James was confused by the toned down reaction. He would have thought Crouch would punch him right then and there, this would end up with Barty being scolded and James being coddled by Regulus.
But that's not what happened.

"W-well it's true. He said I kiss exceptionally, and you kiss more like a Black Lake mermaid." James replied, adding a more insulting approach.

Then something unexpected happened- unexpected to both of them.

Barty climbed onto James' lap, facing him nose to nose with flushed cheeks. "Prove it."

"W-what?" James stuttered, unable to process what was happening.

"I said prove it, kiss me right now I want to know what all the fuss is about."

James hesitated at first then he complied. He leaned in giving Barty a short yet meaningful kiss, both of them keeping their hands to themselves. When James pulled away they both looked at each other with red cheeks and a quickened breath.

"I- I don't think I'm persuaded." Barty said in a low tone that sent shivers up Potter's spine.

"No?" James replied, still holding a heavy eye contact.

"No." Barty noted before pulling James in for another kiss. He tangled his hands in the Gryffindor's silky curls, the same curls he had called stupid days prior.

James wrapped his arms around Barty's waist, pulling him closer into him. His hands exploring his hips and lower back in a way that drove Barty mad. Both wizards despised the other, but that only caused more tension between them. Their mouths moved in a way two quidditch players competed in the sky, and their tongues played like a chess match.

One always wanting to prove themself more to the other.

Barty pulled away first this time, his breath heavy. "That was awful." He lied plainly.

"Oh was it? And you are just so much better?" James chuckled.

The laughing just made Barty that much more motivated. He buried his face in James' neck, kissing and biting in a calculated way. He tested Potter's limits and found his weak spots easily,

James dug his nails into Barty's hips, he'd normally find himself being more careful with his partners. With Barty he let himself react the way his body wanted. It wasn't that he wanted to hurt Crouch, more so that he was aware Barty liked it.

When an un intentional moan escaped James' lips, the Slytherin student pulled away looking all too proud of himself.

James groaned as he flipped Barty onto his back, climbing over him with a power hungry expression.
"You won't win."

"You sure about that?" Barty countered.

The two dipped in for another kiss but just then the common room door flew open and Barty was practically tossed onto the floor.

"Merlin, are you two fighting again?" Regulus huffed, a disappointment yet not surprised expression on his face.

"Fuck you Potter." Barty scoffed in a genuinely angry voice, pulling himself to his feet and brushing off his clothing.

James looked nervously between the two wizards then back at Regulus who was eying him curiously.

"What?" James asked as if the Slytherin knew what he had done.

Regulus stalked over to him, grabbing his face and turning it to the side to study his neck.
"Where the fuck did you get these insane hickeys?"

James felt his heart sink, his head snapping towards Barty whom held the look of victory in his eyes.

"I- I Uhm-"

"Shame on you Potter." Barty scolded, a fake look of disappointment spread across his face.

James almost smiled, the wizard had him right where he wanted him.

Barty had won-
