The theatre is close to empty by the time my first performance on Broadway is over. Only two hours ago, this place was extremely full. They'd all watched me deeply kiss Darren Criss. To be honest, I felt something more than just that feeling of giddiness of making out with my celebrity crush...A sensation that only can be described as blissful. I didn't know what to call what I felt. Perhaps, I'd learn it later on.
No matter how much I thought that the kiss was real, not just one I had to pretend, Darren would go crawling back to his current girlfriend, Mia Swier. It stings directly inside my heart. It is like a dagger stabbing it, slowly killing me.
Speaking of Darren, he walks over to me on the stage. I see a single lavender rose in between his fingers. Darren bows as a prince does and I take the rose from him. I let the intoxicating smell fill up my nostrils.
I grin, "Why thank you, Darren! You're as sweet as this rose smells!"
Then he kisses me on the cheek and whispers, "You were beautiful tonight, Quinn! You're just as stunning now! I can't wait for dinner tomorrow."
Then I hear woman's voice I do not know saying, "Darren! Where are you?"
Darren calls back to it, "I am on the stage, Mia."
I see a woman come from stage right and Darren embraces her with a smile. The dagger plunging deeper into my heart. Her hair is curled, it is brown and at the edges it is an orangey-red, she possesses a kind smile, eyes that also seem to beam at you, and all I can end this description on is that she's beautiful.
"Ah Darren, Ha-ha! Aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?" she asks.
Darren laughs off his bad manners, "Yes! Ummmm...Mia this is the star of the night, Quinn Estell...Quinn, this is my girlfriend, Mia. Mia Swier."
Mia has a hand ready, "Oh my God! So you're the Quinn I've been hearing about! You were stunning as Catia tonight, I must add! It is great to meet you."
"You to, Mia!"
"Darren, Honey! I'm feeling really tired so I'm going to call a cab."
Mia is walking away and then notices that Darren isn't following her lead.
"Ummm...Aren't we going home, Darren?"
Darren tells Mia, "You go ahead...I have to finish this conversation, Mia."
I can see she isn't happy with Darren's answer, but obliges.
Darren then says, "Remember to text me when you get home, Quinn."
"I won't," I tell him.
Darren begins to go the direction his girlfriend went.
"Wait, Darren!" I exclaim.
"What is it?"
I answer, "Thank you for helping to fulfill my dream...It means a lot...Also Mia is beautiful!"
He smiles, "You are very welcome, Quinn!"
When Darren goes, I sigh. Now I am truly alone.
I breathe and hear the music for the song I am about to sing in my head. Yet again, from Wicked. I relate to Elphaba so much! Darren is like my Fiyero. I sing the words of "I'm Not That Girl". I could see why Darren would rather have a girlfriend like Mia. She was beautiful. I wasn't in comparison. Even though Darren did call me beautiful. That does help boost my pride a slight bit.
I am crying at the end of my rendition of one of the most relateble songs.
Then I hear Leah saying, " Come on, Broadway Star, let's get you home!"
I run to her sobbing. We take a cab together, first stop, my apartment complex.
"You were wonderful tonight, Quinn...I always had and still do have faith in you," she says.
"Thank you and good night, Leah," I tell her.
I text Darren before heading into hibernation for the night. Smiling when he answers and tells me good night.
I instantly get to sleep once I hit my pillow. I no longer needed the dreams of the night to hold on to.
