I THOUGHT I always had my life in control, living in Wisconsin in the Midwest. I had great friends, the ideal surburban lifestyle completed with a white picket fence and the best family ever. I was well liked by my classmates and the school, maintained good grades and a clean slate for my reputation.
But that all came crashing down when my mother uttered those dreaded words that no teenager ever wants to hear.
"We're moving."
Those two words could easily change fate, but also, it was an opportunity. An opportunity to start a new life, somewhere else where nobody knows your name. You could do the things you want that you have been afraid of doing at home. You could make new friends who has never seen your embarassing childhood photos unless your parents decide to show them. A clean slate to begin with. And that excited me at the same time.

I could kill my brother for changing my ringtone for the seventh time this week. Ever since he rewatched the Star Wars series, he has been mentioning Star Wars quotes at any given moment, tried to do his best Darth Vader accent and is currently persuading my parents to buy him an R2D2 or a lightsaber. I couldn't blame him though, geeky obsessions run in my family.
I swiped my phone to answer the call. My best friend's loud voice boomed through the phone. "JASMINE WENDY DARLING LET ME IN YOUR HOUSE!" I laughed in response and ended the call before walking downstairs.
The doorbell wasn't working otherwise my best friend, who at this point I forgotten to mentioned her name, Vanessa Browns, would've just pressed the doorbell three times to signify her arrival and walk up to my room. But since my little twin brothers who are rascals destroyed the doorbell because my older brother decided to play frisbee. On the lawn (he also destroyed mom's prized hydrangeas).
"HELLO!" she still had her loud voice on as she jumped and engulfed me in a hug. I laughed and hugged her back, as I tried to shut the door behind us.
"And hello to you too, you never fail to make a grand entrance." I said, fluffing her hair. She groaned and ducked from my destroyer hands.
We walked up the stairs, gossiping about the latest news Vanessa has on Michaela Greene. Michaela Greene was the winner of our town's beauty pagent and the reason why we gossiped about her was because there were plenty of rumours flying about her. Most of them were plastic surgery but it couldn't be possible as she was our age only. But Michaela isn't important.
As I entered my room, I saw my older brother with my phone yet again.
"PETER CHASE DARLING TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF MY PHONE!" I yelled and lunged towards him. I tackled him to the bed as I tried to wrestle my phone away from him. Vanessa stood at the door laughing as I wrestled with my brother. "Give it back!" I demanded trying to make a grab for it.
Because he was a year older than me, he wad much bigger in size (thanks to my mother sending him to swim and football classes) and much more stronger. He also had the looks of a heartbreaker, loose brown curls and charming smile that was only charming because of his middle school braces. Needless to say, I am immune to his charm and any other boy's charm because of him.
"If you grab it, it's yours." He said smirking as he tried to stand up. He moved my phone about in the air, taunting me to grab it. I decided to play the annoying sibling and get off him and pouted.
"I'm going to tell mummy." I said in a kiddy voice.
He mocked me back in a kiddy voice. "Aw and how old are you? You are sixteen going on seventeen." He ended his last words with a line from the Sound of Music. Eventually he gave my phone back and I pointed him in the direction of the door. "No kiss?"
