8 - What's the melody [the title of a popular music game show in Poland]

„Can we turn on the radio?" I asked instead of listening carefully.

Martinus looked at me in surprise in the mirror, Jungkook in the seat next to him raised his eyebrows as high as if I had proposed marriage.

„Huh?" This time the dark-eyed man asked. „We force you into the car and you want to listen to the radio instead of our explanations?"

„Yes. I haven't listened to the radio in the car for a long time."

Fortunately, none of them asked anything else. Martinus turned on the device and the speakers were filled with... yes, yes, it's probably not hard to guess that it wasn't a nostalgic song that would make you imagine yourself as the heroine of the music video. It was a very annoying advertisement for a certain electronics store. I sighed deeply. I heard some contented grunts from the seat next to me. Why is this man so mean? Martinus next to him is the embodiment of angelic kindness.

After a few minutes and five announcements: "This will be the last commercial", a normal song finally came on. I was lucky because it was one of those songs that everyone knows, unless they're not from this planet.

„Who is singing?" I threw it in the air.

No one spoke for three seconds.

„And what kind of interrogations are these?" Said Jungkook.

„What's the melody" Said me.

„Huh?" Said Martinus.

So they are not from this planet. I didn't need more. Everything about them was mysterious and strange. I didn't understand many of their words and behaviors. Martinus' tricks, lyrics about mermaids, Jungkook's burning, ignorance of H2O, popular songs and game shows. The fact that they were never there, the fact that I was sitting in this car. That they chose me even though no normal person would do it.

I wasn't scared or nervous. I only felt deep sadness, because it means that they are not here forever, that they will disappear quickly. I really didn't like being left.

The song on the radio switched to the nostalgic kind. I leaned my head against the window and looked at the passing sights, soothed by gentle sounds. We were already out of town and passing through fields that were golden in the setting sun. Rays of dying light illuminated the clouds in shades of orange and purple. I opened the window a little and put my fingers to feel the gusts of wind. I haven't enjoyed a summer evening in a long time. I haven't driven a car in a long time. I haven't watched H2O with anyone in a long time. It's been a long time since I had two friends.

At that moment, I decided that no matter how short they would be with me, I would take advantage of every moment together and create a lot of beautiful memories.
