CHAPTER TEN
CHRISTMASIn the year: 1940
CHRISTMAS was a special day for anyone, even vampires. Everyone in the world seemed to put all their troubles aside and celebrate a nostalgic time. A day for the snow to coat the roads, everyone to cuddle up next to their fireplace and drink hot cocoa as they open presents.
"Stop moving it!" Emmett scolds Edward as he climbs up the ladder to place the Angel on top of the tree.
"I'm not moving it, you're just scared and shaking." Edward rolled his eyes as he continued to hold the ladder in place.
"I am not scared." Emmett protest.
Edward scoffs before grinning, "I can read your thoughts, Emmett."
"If you did, you would know I'm seconds away from drop-kicking you from up here," Emmett growls to which Edward just rolls his eyes.
"Enough, you two," Esme walks in with two wrapped gifts, "Edward, stop shaking the ladder."
"Told you!"
"I'm not shaking the ladder!" Edward exclaims in annoyance.
Carlisle shakes his head at the two, "What are we gonna do with them?" He asked his wife who'd sat on his lap and also watched the scene unfold.
"Don't ask me." Esme giggles. "Forget about the angel, Boys, we'll make do without it."
Rosalie entered the living room which was covered in Christmas lights. "What'd I miss?"
"Nothing that you won't see again," Carlisle claims.
Esme frowns, "Where's Thea?"
Rosalie shrugs, sitting down on the couch opposite of her, "She hasn't left her room in two days, what do you think that's about?"
"Her son turned one-years-old a week ago," Carlisle reveals, "she's probably just trying to cope."
"Should we go get her?" Emmett questions.
"No." Esme was quick to say, "We shouldn't push her. She's not ready and that's okay."
Emmett frowns, he'd grown to like Thea, it sucked that she didn't want to be a part of this time of the year.
"So...gifts?" Edward grabs a box and hands it to Esme.
Esme smiled ear to ear, opening it to see a beautiful headpiece. "It's beautiful," she runs her finger over the design, "thank you, Edward."
Edward smiled softly.
"My turn!" Emmett takes a small wrapped box and hands it to Rosalie, who smirks. "Hope you like it, baby."
Rosalie removes the top from the box, revealing a pearl necklace. Her eyes widen, "I love this." Rosalie smiled widely.
Esme grins. Emmett was the only person capable of making her smile so big.
Emmett kisses her temple and grabs a box that reads, to Emmett.
He opened the box and saw a bracelet with a bear charm carved into it. His eyes immediately snap to Edward, "my favorite," Emmett grins jokingly, "you did this?"
Edward raised his brows as well as his hands, "wasn't me."
Emmett looks to his wife who also claims it wasn't her. Carlisle and Esme agree.
"It's only fair game after my snake ring," Thea grinned as she sat next to Rosalie, "Merry Christmas, Emmett."
Emmett was stunned, eyes wide, but he laughed and ruffled her hair. Thea whines, swatting his hand away. "Merry Christmas to you."
"Merry Christmas to all of you." Thea turns to the rest of the family, a soft smile on her lips.
"Merry Christmas." They all say with a smile.
As Edward is next to open his gift, Thea takes the moment to look at Rosalie, who sends her a thumbs up.
Thea smiles proudly. She didn't know what family felt like but she was trying to learn and this was a start.
ragerwrites, Emmett and Thea are so sibling coded, I'm telling you now!
