Donatella Dragna knew she would never love. Ever since finding her mother's Deck of Destiny and pulling the Prince of Hearts, she knew love wasn't in the cards.

As Tella grew up, she kissed so many boys, she sincerely doubted there was any kiss really worth dying for.  Even so, she never kissed a boy more than once, sure her future was a loveless one.

You'd think one so cynical about love would be jaded, but Tella was far from that. Tella was always the dreamer, the one ready to go on an adventure of her and her sister.

The sisters were close but they were opposites in some ways. Where Scarlett played it safe, Tella was impulsive. When Tella wanted an escapade, her sister wanted security.

"Scarlett,"  a young Tella exclaimed, her voice full of joy "Nana just told me another story about Legend! I wish I could go to Caraval."

This was around the time of Tella's birthday, the 37th day of the growing season, and the look of wonder in her sister's eyes touched Scarlett more than Tella would ever know.

The moment was shattered the second their father entered the room, but Scarlett didn't forget it. And with that thought, Scarlett penned the first of many letters to Legend. When he didn't reply, she sent another. And another. Until she wrote her last one, and he responded.

That's when the real story started.
