Jisung had always felt like he was drifting through life, not knowing what his final destination was or how to get there.
If he was sure of one thing though it was that he didn't want to be here.
But he had to suck it up, at least until they left.
When he got into the top university in Seoul his parents had told him that it was an honour to go to a school like this and have a nice job sitting waiting for him at the end of these four long years. It's reliable and stable. But he didn't want reliable and stable, he wanted to feel some sense of purpose in life. But he kept his head down and nodded to their every word just to get them to just be quiet.
"Now Jisung, please try socialising a bit instead of laying in bed all day." His mother looked over her shoulder while placing a box onto his bed.
She turned around and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Your father and I are so proud of you, aren't we honey?" She gave Jisung an empathetic smile and glanced over to her husband, who was typing on his phone.
Not looking up his unenthusiastic words stumbled out."Oh- yes, Jisung we are so proud."
Empty words.
He looked down at the fresher's week guide that he was clutching in his hand while his parents helped move the final boxes into his room. He skimmed over the events that were going on this ongoing week and cringed at the thought of going out and having to socialise.
The sound of the last box being dropped on the floor made him look up.
"Alright Ji, me and your father are off now." She offered Jisung an awkward hug then stepped back.
His father pocketed his phone and finally engaged in the conversation, but of course, it was to talk about himself, it always was. "Seriously we are so proud, I've always wanted to be a doctor and you know how I couldn't because your mother got pregnant and I had to work and I-," he sighed. "It just means so much that you got to achieve my dream."
Jisung was about to be sick.
His mother placed her hand on his father's shoulder. "Goodbye Sung, call us if you need anything."
"Will do, bye." He muttered.
The sound of the door slamming shut made his chest lighter yet heavier at the same time.
He could hear the faint sound of his roommate's parents uttering their goodbyes followed by the door shutting.
He didn't want to talk to people right now but he knew that he had to introduce himself sooner or later and by the time he made the mental decision to go and seek out his roommate a small knock came from his bedroom door.
A small boy with bleached blonde hair and freckles peeked his head through the opening of the door.
"Hey I'm Lee felix your new roommate" he smiled politely with a bow.
"There's no need to be so formal with me," Jisung chuckled awkwardly "I'm Han Jisung nice to have you as my roommate."
Felix lets out a somewhat relieved sigh. "Everyone i met on campus so far has been so formal and it's exhausting."
"We're around the same age right? So let's just speak casually." Jisung shrugged.
"Agreed! Nice meeting you Sungie I would stick around longer but I gotta unpack, see ya later!"
Felix shut the door before Jisung could reciprocate his goodbye.
"Sungie?" He repeated to the closed door.
He grabbed the guide from his desk once again and looked at the first-day help guide.
Jisung took a mental note to sign up for classes later.

Jisung dug his clammy hands into his hoodie pockets as he walked to the far left seat of the lecture hall sitting down as dozens of students flooded into the class chatting and giggling with their friends. He couldn't help but think they were laughing at him, I mean his hoodie fit him weirdly and his beanie didn't suit him and his eyebags were so prominent and-
Deep breaths.
He always did that, he gets into a downward spiral just resulting in self-sabotage for no apparent reason. He needed to calm down.
Shakily, he reached into his bag pulled out Xanax pills and popped one into his mouth.
The background chatter of students died down as the door opened and the professor walked in.
His Feline eyes were the first thing that caught Jisung's attention , then it was the way his inky hair was perfectly combed back with a few strands hanging out, followed by his olive skin that was revealed by the rolled up arms of his white dress shirt.
"Hello class, I am your Mchem professor for the year. Please call me Professor Lee and as it is only your second week in so I hope we can make this lecture as facile as it has to be for the both of us." His honeyed voice projected across the auditorium as his eyes scanned across the lecture hall, his gaze lingering for a few seconds on Jisung before turning away.
A slight flutter in Jisung's chest had him pinching his arm. What the fuck was he thinking? Just because his professor was attractive and well-spoken and smart and- okay fine, maybe he had a small totally normal attraction to the man but at this point who in this lecture hall didn't?
Jisung started to write down notes of the upcoming topics and the overall meaning of this degree but overtime the lull of the fluorescent lights, the smooth voice of his professor and the drowsiness of the Xanax caught up to him snatching his consciousness and dragging him deep under.
...
..
.
"Hello, Jisung?" Faint words echoed throughout his ears followed by a polite tap on the shoulder.
The two sweet seconds before Jisung remembered where he was were pure bliss but unfortunately the reality was way more humiliating. His head shot up and he was frozen in absolute horror.
"I- I am so sorry Professor Lee oh my god I promise you I never meant to sleep I wasn't trying to be disrespectful or anything and I-"
A chuckle interrupted his nervous rambling. "Jisung it's fine, honestly I get the new student life is stressful I'm not that old but please promise me this is the last time, okay?" Minho sighed and walked back over to his desk at the front of the empty room looking back at a blushing Jisung.
"Oh and while we're at it, I've reviewed everyone's entrance test scores and I will be going through them with students during office hours, would you mind coming to my office tomorrow after our afternoon class?"
Seeing his Professor alone was one way to humiliate himself again but what choice did he have at this point?
"I-um yes sir." He bowed awkwardly clutching his backpack strap in his hand.
Minho started to pack up his equipment on his desk. "Oh- and Jisung, my office number is 0325, don't forget it."
"Oh-Okay Professor, goodbye" The younger squeaked, rushing out of the lecture hall.
Tomorrow office hours, room 0325 with Professor Lee.
Oh god.
