Last weekend I put on Unicorn Academy because I was looking for something cutesy and comforting and before I knew it, my wife and I binged the entire season!
Ava reminds me a lot of myself when I was younger. I'm not sure whether she's Indian or not, but it's so nice to see a character who looks like me! And Ava and Sophia are just so flippin' cute! I'm so in love with them that I even loved their fight.
I decided to write this fic diary entry style because I really wanted to capture Ava's over the top hyper personality.
Btw, this is my first time writing middle grade fiction and also writing in first person. Usually I write close third for adults (minors, please DNI with the rest of my account!) but Ava and Sophia are just so adorable that I knew I needed to write this story for them! 🦄🧚🏽🍃💜✨

Dear Diary,
You should've seen Sophia today! She was so cool! She's cool like every day, but today she was just 🤯! Also isn't it so super neat that our pens can write down any emoji we want! I know you can't see it, but my pen is really pink and fluffy and cute and it makes me wanna use it all the time. My homework at my old school would've been so much prettier if regular pens could write like this! 🌸
Anyway, so today in Riding Class, we worked on jumps with Ms. Wildwood. We had to clear a two bar jump and then as a reward we got to walk an easy trail and bond with our unicorns and go skyberry picking! I love picking skyberries so much. The bushes are just so green and pretty, and Leaf makes it such a breeze! We always pick way more berries than everyone else so there's always plenty to share.
Awww, now I want skyberries again! Leaf and I ate way too many of them today but I already miss that sweet, tart flavor. So delicious and juicy, yum! 😋🫐
Oops I'm getting distracted again, sorry! So back to the jumps, we've already mastered two bar jumps so I wasn't too worried, but that was until the dwerpins brought out the bars and they were wayyyyy higher than anything we'd done before. Leaf hooved the ground nervously but it was okay, I calmed her down. Everything's always better after a hug!
First it was Rory's turn which was super funny because he was late again. ⏰ He was still putting Storm's saddle on when Ms. Wildwood called him up. He tried to jump over one bar but he slid off because his saddle wasn't secured properly. We all laughed because Ms. Primrose happened to see and she came over to lecture him. Typical!
Next it was Layla's turn. It took a couple of tries, but even though she was really scared, she and Glacier pulled it off! We all cheered for them while she wrote down notes on how she made the jumps. Isabel pointed out that she already had notes which was what helped her do the jumps in the first place, but then Layla excitedly told all of us about how these notes were for "replication". I never stop being impressed that she manages to do everything we do while carrying way too many books! Seriously, last time Sophia and I counted and she had like 10. 😳
Then it was Isabel and Valentina's turn. To no one's surprise, they cleared the jumps pretty easily. They pushed and shoved each other and showed off by jumping over the bars over and over. Isabel claimed that she "won" because she and River jumped the bars 10 times but Valentina insisted that she was the winner because she and Cinder cleared just as many jumps as Isabel while looking #flawless. 💅
And then it was Sophia's turn and wow you really should've been there! First she jumped over one bar, then two, and then she asked the dwerpins to add a third bar and she flew over it all easy peasy! It was amazing!
When she and Wildstar made that last jump, her gorgeous rainbow hair flew through the wind and when it caught the sunshine, I swear I got hearts in my eyes 😍. Her eyes went all sparkly, you know how they get when she gets that determined look on her face. And when they landed, she had this triumphant, accomplished look on her face and ohhhh, I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it! She's so cool!
When she rides Wildstar, it's like magic! I mean, okay fine, I know it literally is magic, but they make the most beautiful rainbow light magic I've ever seen! 🌈 Not that I've seen light magic before, but Sophia and Wildstar's magic is just different. It's more shiny and special, and when I see them work together I get that same tingly feeling as when Leaf makes plants grow, or when Wildstar builds a bridge and I can hear the stars twinkle. 💫 I love love love it!
Finally, it was mine and Leaf's turn. Layla actually had to nudge me because I couldn't stop looking at Sophia. It was a little embarrassing. Leaf and I couldn't do three bars yet, but we cleared two bars no problem! Leaf made everyone flower crowns to celebrate! 💐
Afterwards, Isabel and Valentina wanted a turn trying out three bars but they couldn't make it, and they got SO mad. They just kept fighting with each other and Rory and I rolled our eyes at them. For two people who claim to hate each other, they sure do spend a lot of time together. Even if they do spend it arguing!
Ms. Wildwood said that it was okay that we couldn't clear the jump yet, but when I think about how Sophia and Wildstar always push themselves to take on new challenges, it makes me want to be a better rider.
Leaf and I looked at each other, and it's so strange, you'd think that I'd have gotten used to the way we communicate by now but it's still so awesome and mystical every time. We both knew that we needed to keep honing our skills. If we were going to rescue Sophia the next time she put herself in danger, we needed to be the best we can be!
I know that she said that she would come to me from now on, and I really want to trust her, buuuuuut just in case, I'd rather be prepared. 😉
After that, we went on our ride and Sophia and I decided to make our new friendship bracelets tonight. The ones she made for us may not be very cute, but they have a special spot on our nightstands.
Oh, I think I hear the door opening, I bet that's her now! I haven't told her yet, but when Leaf took me to Unicorn Beach, I picked the glitteriest, most sparkliest shells to take the place of the grimstone. 🐚 It's not the same thing, but I'd rather not crack that in half again!
