It had been a week since he spent the night, and Atharva kept avoiding me.He would always leave for the office early in the morning and come back late at night. I would pretend to be asleep every time he returned.
Even though I slept on the couch, he took me in his arms lie me down on the bed with him. His behavior was becoming increasingly confusing.
During this week, I had nothing to do, so I learned a bit about cooking. Now, I was in the kitchen as Mom asked me to.
"Beta, bring this tea to Dada Sa," she instructed. I agreed and carried the cup of tea to his room. As I approached the door, I heard some arguing.
It sounded like someone was having a heated conversation.
“Baba Sa, I will not allow Manvi and her stepdaughter to come like this. If they come, Vikram will also come to this house,” Vivaan Baba (Atharva’s father) said.
I pressed my ear to the door to listen more closely. Hearing Vikram’s name made me very curious.
“Watch your tongue, don’t raise your voice in front of me,” Dada Sa (Atharva’s grandfather) said.
Vivaan Baba responded, “But Baba Sa, this is wrong. She ruined the family’s reputation by marrying a man who was already married with children.”
I gasped upon hearing this. Grandpa continued, “And what did you do? Even though you were married, you had an affair and had two children with her.”
I was shocked and confused by the conversation. Vivaan Baba said again, “It wasn’t you who forced me to marry. Diksha had two children, but I only brought Rohan home and left Vikram behind.”
My hand flew to my mouth. Diksha Maa’s two children were Rohan and Vikram. I hoped it wasn’t the same Vikram I knew.
Grandpa angrily said, “You don’t have the right to argue. I didn’t want to have two illegitimate children in my house. You did wrong with Atharva’s mother and betrayed her. Atharva always longed for your love.”
All of this was a shock to me.
“So which of my words does he listen to? He always does his own thing and talks to me as if I am his enemy. You gave all the property to him and made him CEO, Vijay Bhaiya. Why don’t you say anything?” Vivaan Baba said again.
Vijay Kaka replied, “Brother, you’re right. Baba Sa, think about Rajveer and Abhinav. What will they do?”
Grandpa put his hands on his head and said, “I can’t believe you guys. Atharva took care of everything from a young age and lost his childhood. How can you be so greedy? Atharva never received love, and you still want more?”
