"You went through all this drama just for this?" I look around the garden. "You're stubborn, it's the only way I could get you out of that house, he wraps his arms around my waist from behind. "You could have asked me like a normal person""I love you" He pecks my temple. "I love me too" I try not to laugh. "Marry me" He orders making me pull away from him. "Are you high?" I check his temperature. "No... Marry me" He states once again. "Samkelo" I trail off.
"We're not even together but you want to jump into marriage?" I look down at my lap. "We've been together for the past four years" He scowls. "No we haven't. I can't marry you Samkelo, we both know that" I decline.
"I love you, you love me, let's get married" He shrugs and I tilt my head to the side. "I'm sorry but I can't" I dryly swallow. "What is that you want from me Naledi? I'm tired of this back and forth with you, I'm not going to wait on you forever" I know...
"I don't know, maybe for you to actually consider my feelings for once, you can't be walking out on me everytime I ask you a question or when we argue. I don't want you to keep secrets from me Samkelo, you discard of my feelings like they mean nothing. You don't trust me how do you expect me to marry you when you don't care about what I want?" I express.
"You dragged me and my kids out here and now you want me to marry you? Whatever you're smoking is very strong, Please take me and my children home" I try to walk past him. "The least you could've said was no" He sighs.
"Mxm. I was just telling you the truth" I roll my eyes. "I understand that you're not ready, I'll wait for you... but I won't wait for you forever. Ngiyakuthanda Naledi" He wraps his arms around me. I wrap my arms around his neck, burying my head in his neck. "I love you too" I suddenly feel a stinging sensation on my chest, as if someonecs stabbing me, I look up at Samkelo.
"I've never loved anyone as much as I love you, from the moment I saw you in that store I knew that you were going to be my wife. I love you Naledi Mxenge, with every single fibre in my being. You being the mother of my children made me fall in love with you even more. I can't find the words to tell you how much I love you. I want you to take care of yourself and our children, do you hear me? With or without me. I'm sorry, ngiyakuthanda yezwa?"
"I love you so much"
He murmers, tightening his grip around me and my heart drops as I register those words into my brain. I look up to see him faintly smiling down at me. "Samkelo" I drag out, feeling something coating my chest.
I slightly pull away from him, my breathing picks up as I look down at the blood running down his chest. I fall onto my knees with him, I slip his shirt off and look down at the bullet wound.
I push my tears away, fumbling my phone out of my pocket as I put pressure on his wound. He's just lying there, not bothered by the situation. I call the ambulance and notice his eyes getting drowsy.
"Please don't close your eyes" I coax him and he lazily smiles, gripping onto my hand. "Ngiyakuthanda yezwa?" He chokes out. "D-Don't say that..." I place my hand on his cheek, blinking my tears away.
We're now both soaked in blood and he's slowly slipping away. "S-Samkelo p-please" I croak out. "Naledi" He breathes out. "I love you and our babies, always remember that" He slowly pulls up my hand, placing it on his chest. "Don't close your e-eyes"
The ambulance gets there before I can continue. I anxiously call Ona, telling her to come stay with the twins. I also call Ma'Lwethu, telling her to come to the hospital. I'm now driving down to Rea's practice. I'm trying so hard not to break down as I carry my shaking legs down to the waiting room outside the ICU.
I'm now anxious seated on one of the chairs, staring at the door waiting for Rea to walk out and tell me that he's okay. My foot is rapidly tapping against he ground as I clutch onto my purse. I sniffle, looking down at my keyring, sadly smiling.
He can't leave me, not yet. The door flies open and I quickly look up only to frustratedly sigh. "I flew here as fast as I could, Minentle... What's going on?" Ma'Lwethu walks towards me, scanning around the room. "What are you doing here? Ukuphi uSamkelo?" She bombards me with multiple questions.
"M-Mah" I choke out, and I notice that her hand starts shaking and she tries to hide it. "W-Where's my son?" She whispers this time. "I-S-Samkelo got shot" I try so hard not to cry. "W-Where? How? Who-Who shot him?" She stumbles upon her words, heavily breathing. "I don't know."
"H-He's going to be okay?" She pulls me into her arms, tightly hugging me. "I don't want to loose him" I mutter, closing my eyes. "He's going to be okay" She says once again, as if to convince herself too. I sniffle, feeling her tears on my shoulder. She soon start crying, and now both her hands are shaking uncontrollably.
The door opens and Rea steps out, pulling her gloves off. Her scrubs are all bloody, she has black bags under her eyes and specks of tears on her cheeks. Her face is all puffy and swollen. She gulps, tightly gripping onto her bloody gloves.
We both turn to her waiting for her to start speaking...
