"Is he okay?" I wipe away my tears. "I don't want to lie to you, I don't know. He's out of theatre but he's barley holding on. The bullet was too close to his heart, he lost a lot of blood""Is my son okay or not Reabetswe?" Ma'Lwethu asks this time. "You can go and see him Mah" She steps aside and Ma'Lwethu walks past her, and towards Samkelo's assigned room. "Rea" I call out as she keeps on zoning out. "mhm?"
"Ke eng?" She sighs. "Nothing" She mutters and walks out. I rub my aching temple and Ma'Lwethu walks out a few moments later with tears at the brimnof her eyes. "Mah" I call out. "I'll be back" She whispers, quickly collecting her things and leaving.
My feet carry me towards the room as I anxiously bite the inside of my cheek. I push the door open and step in. My face immediately drops when I see him, his skin is pale as he lies on the bed, with his chest slowly heaving up and down.
I sit on the chair near his body. My hand reaches up, grabbing onto his. I finally let my tears flow. "S-Samkelo, wake up... Please wake up, I'll do a-anything, I'll m-marry you just wake u-up" I sob.
I don't know how long I've been here but I haven't let go of his hand ever since I stepped foot into this room. The constant beeping of the monitor pulls me out of my slumber and he's still unconscious.
I have a headache and my face is heating up because of all the crying I've been doing. I aim to stand up but I'm put to a halt when his hand squeezes mine. I freeze looking down at him, "S-Samkelo" I croak out, clearing my throat.
He squeezes my hand again but the monitor starts rapidly beeping. I press he button near his bed multiple times. The monitor goes flat before it starts rapidly beeping once again, he's flat-lining.
I try checking his pulse and it's not there, I place my hand on his chest feeling his heart slowing down. The door bursts open and Rea and a few nurses rush in. "Entle, you need to leave" She tries pushing me out of the room.
"Rea, what's wrong with him?" I try taking a glance at him but she pushes me out of the room. I sit back on the chair, anxiously picking on my nails. I block everything out of my mind and I only focus on him, he's slowly slipping away- I shake the thought out of my mind... He'll be okay, right?
Three hours have passed and doctors and nurses keep on exiting or entering the room and it's stressing me out. I've tried asking about his well - being but no one wants to tell me anything and it's starting to annoy me.
"Minnie!" Ona rushes into the room. "What's wrong? O llelang?" She starts panicking. "Didn't Rea say he's okay?" She starts clouding my mind with questions. "I-He-I don't know. He was okay Ona but the monitor went off and he started flat-lining, they took me out of the room" I mumble.
"Have you tired to ask-" I cut her off.
"They don't want to tell me anything!" I frustratedly say. "Minnie, calm down" Ona tries hugging me. "ha-eh Onalerona, I've been here for three hours and they don't want to tell me anything!" I almost shout."I'll see what I can do... Don't stress yourself out, I'll handle it. I got you clothes and toiletries, I'll go get you something to eat" She adds. "Ona... Thank you" I say. "Don't mention it, it's what sisters are for" She genuinely smiles.
"I don't know what I'd do without you" I sadly smile back. "Let's not focus on taht, let's focus on the situation at hand. I've already called Ma'Lwethu, she's still with the triplets." She informs me and I nod, not paying attention.
"Weh Reabetswe!" Ona calls out when Rea steps out of the room- more like sneaks out as if she's trying to avoid me. "Yeah?" She anxiously asks whilst pulling off her gloves. "We want updates? What's going on in there?" Ona quickly asks.
"Uhmm.... I'll be back, let me finish this real quick and change out of my scrubs then we'll talk. In the meantime, there's a room in my office, you can go and freshen up in there" She avoids the question. "Nxn. I want to those updates Reabetswe" Ona threatens and Rea nods before sneaking away.
I rest my head on Ona's shoulder, drifting off. "Mosadi, let's get you cleaned up then you can sleep." She shakes me and I wake up, heading down to Rea's office. I take a really short shower and change into the comfortable cotton tracksuits.
"Ma'Lwethu said that I should take you home and that she'd tell you when she gets any updates" Ona tells me when I settle down. "I don't want to leave Ona, I want to stay here" I whisper out. "I know but you're tired and exhausted, I'll bring you back the second you start feeling better" She proposes.
"Okay" I mutter following after her as she leads me to her car. We silently drive home and I get into bed, falling alseep the second we get there. I haven't even seen my babies yet...

"Minnie!" Ona shakes me and I quickly sit up. "The hospital's calling for you, it's urgent. Let's go" I get up and take another shower to get the hospital smell off of me. I grab my things heading down and into her car. She flies through traffic, racing to get to the hospital. When we get there, Ma'Lwethu and her husband, Sbonelo, Sabelo, Sima and Samkelo's grandparents are all in the waiting room. Some of them are pacing around the room- now I know where he gets it from- whilst the others are just seated with shaking hands or tapping feet. "Dumelang" I greet...
Sima turns to me, faintly smiling. Rea- the woman of the moment steps out before anyone else can say anything. She's now dressed in her casual clothes, I think her shift's over now.
"Uhmm"
"Is he okay or not Rea?" Simamkele asks this time. "I-I'm so sorry... I tried everything, He flat-lined during surgery and his heart stopped beating"
No... I rush past her, entering his room. My footsteps echo across the hallway and I pull the cloth off of his face. "Minnie" Ona tries dragging me out of the room. "Mhmmhm" Tears roll down my face. "I'm sorry" She tightly hugs me and I burst out crying.
"I'm so sorry" She keeps on whispering.
