In the following days, Shubman and Saumya found themselves crossing paths more frequently within the apartment complex. Whether it was in the lobby, the parking lot, or even the common gym, their encounters became more frequent, each one filled with easy conversation and shared laughter.
"Ah look who it is, The Warrior" Shubman mused smirking as he saw her doing push-ups in the gym making her roll her eyes before throwing the empty bottle at him. "Shut up so called Prince."
"No fuck you. Sebastian Stan is hot as hell," Saumya answered making him place his hands over his heart. "I thought that you thought of me being hot," he pouted earning a swat on his head from her.
As they got to know each other better, Shubman and Saumya discovered common interests and shared experiences, deepening their bond with each passing day. They found themselves making plans to hang out outside of chance encounters, whether it was grabbing coffee at a nearby café or going for a run in the park.
Despite their busy schedules with cricket and other commitments, Shubman and Saumya always made time for each other, their friendship blossoming into something neither of them had expected. They found solace in each other's company, sharing their hopes, dreams, and fears with a level of trust and understanding that was rare to find.
"Movie night soon?" he asked as she nodded while leaning against the lobby wall. "Definitely"
As they spent more time together, Shubman and Saumya's friendship began to attract attention from their teammates and friends. Ishan and Jemimah, in particular, couldn't help but tease Shubman about his newfound friendship with Saumya, while Virat and Rohit offered their support and encouragement, happy to see their teammate finding happiness outside of cricket.
One night during movie night as Saumya scrubbed the last of the dishes, Shubman returned to the kitchen, his eyes inadvertently drawn to her graceful movements. Leaning against the doorway, he watched as she rinsed off the soap suds, her brows furrowed in concentration.
There was something mesmerizing about the way she moved, a sense of purpose and determination in even the simplest of tasks.
Lost in his thoughts, Shubman didn't realize he was staring until Saumya turned to face him, a small smile playing on her lips. "Enjoying the view?" she teased, her voice breaking the momentary silence.
Caught off guard, Shubman's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "Uh, yeah," he stammered, clearing his throat awkwardly. "I mean, not in a creepy way or anything. I just... um... appreciate your help with the dishes."
Saumya chuckled, setting the last plate aside. "No worries, Shubman. I know you're not the creepy type," she reassured him, giving him a playful nudge with her elbow. "But if you're done admiring my dishwashing skills, maybe we should head back to the living room before the popcorn gets cold."
Shubman nodded, grateful for the change of subject. As they made their way back to the cozy living room, Shubman couldn't shake the warmth that spread through his chest at the sight of Saumya's smile. She actually smiled at him properly.
As they settled back into the plush cushions of the sofa, Saumya let out a contented sigh, sinking into the comfort of the moment. The soft glow of the lamp cast a warm ambiance over the room, and the faint aroma of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air.
