Chapter 1: Denis

"1..2..3..4..5 stop!"
Miss Vikari says while counting 5 people in the canteen line to go in, me being the fifth person while my whole friend group was behind me, still waiting in line.
"cant you let one more person in?"
I say hoping i don't have to be alone waiting in the food line.
"nope. Now go to the line."miss vikari says in her monotone like voice, her breath smells like coffee, the stench can be smelt throughout the whole canteen.i muttered a few curse words to her under my breath thankfully she didn't hear. I had no choice but to wait in the canteen line,hoping she would send my friends in soon. I soon i was at the front of the line, my friends nowhere to be seen still. I would have to wait in canteen while my food was getting cold. I sat down at a table near the line and watched my friends in the line hoping they would get in. There was table next to me that only people with high stools sat on it. And guess who sat there? Ava And leah. Out of everyone i wanted to see them the least. They were sitting down chatting away and giggling as per usual until Ava's eyes landed on me unexpectedly.
"Denis?"
She says confusedly.
"Why are you eating at canteen alone?"
Leah already burst out in laughter next to her. She was trying to hide it but it was pretty obvious. Ava cracked a smile and nudged leah with her elbow, trying to tell her to stop laughing at me.
"shut up leah, and my friends are still in the line." I say pointing to Joseph,Ryan,Ahmed and mike.
she turns her head 180 degrees to look at them the spins her back around. Leah in unison with her.
"Sad." She says clearly trying to end the conversation.
"oh-um- what Do we have next?" I say trying to carry on the conversation.
Why you may ask? I have no clue. Maybe cause she was the only person i could talk to in the canteen since my friends weren't here and she was technically my friend. Well, she's my friend 20% of the time and then 80% of the time she's a rude ass bitch. Okay that's a bit harsh but i think you get my point.
"umm geography-" she says but then leah cuts her off.
"Denis shut up, why are you asking Ava huh? Is it cause' you like her or something?"
instantly i glare at leah and Ava looks away, her face unreadable. She was probably uncomfortable or something.
"Leah shutup, and maybe I'm asking her because she's In my class?!"
I say getting annoyed. Everyday i was getting shipped with Ava.
E-v-e-r-y-d-a-y.
me and leah were arguing back and forth while Ava was silent. Why wasn't she saying anything? Soon enough, their bigger group of friends came and sat down with them.
"ewww Denis shutup" said one. She had a black hijab and she was not short but not tall either. It was Fatima. I couldn't be to rude to her because she's one of my sister's friends. Or mutual friends, I don't know, something along the lines of that.
i rolled my eyes and looked back at the line to see my friends finally coming to sit next to me after waiting in the line for so long. I started to eat with my friends when i felt a pair of eyes on me. I wasn't sure who so i tried to pretend as if i needed to get something out my bag so i could catch a glimpse of who it was. It was Ava.
Hold on.
Why was she looking at me?

I ignored it and kept eating.
moments later i felt something hard ,but not hard enough to hurt me, hit my head. Someone threw a wooden broken fork at me. I turned around to see the whole of Ava's friend group shocked and a few snickering.
"Sorry that wasn't mean to hit-"
she says but instantly shuts her mouth as i throw a wooden broken spoon at her. she's now fuming with so much anger i can practically see smoke coming out of her ears.
"oi! Say sorry right now."
Fatima exclaims.
"Nah, ill pass."
I say grinning and turning back around.
soon enough leah comes up to me with a cup of water.
"say sorry or ill spill it all over you."
Leah threatens me. But its only water.
"Do it then." I say confidently.
She attempts to throw water on me but misses and pours it all over my food instead. Okay now shes in for it. Ava bursts out in laughter. Oh so she thinks its funny huh? I quickly speed off to the water tub and get a plastic cup and fill it with water and threaten to pour it over every girl at that table. Fatima,Farah and layla run off standing nearer the exit so I can't pour water on them. Leah stands up from her seat but doesn't move from the table, However Ava stays sitting right where she is not moving an inch.
"do you want me to throw it on you?" I say raising the cup more up.
she raises an eyebrow and lets out a little chuckle.
"go on, do it."
"Huh?"
"you heard me. Pour it on me then."
She says teasingly. God she was so aggravating, But i hesitated, i don't even know why I threatened to pour it all over hear, I'm terrified of her. I paused for about 3 seconds before making my decision. I poured water all over her table leaving her in shock.
"Denis. Clean that shit up right now." She says trying to calm herself down.
i stick my tongue out her.
"Nuh uh."
She sticks her tongue back out at me.
"clean it now."
She says looking really mad now. I get up and get tissues and come back to find her and her friend group leaving the canteen. She's putting her bag on when she sees me cleaning it up and she stops.
"i knew you'd listen to me."
She says smiling teasingly and walking up to me.
"blah blah blah whatever."
I roll my eyes and i find myself smiling.
she watches me clean the water up, she seems really invested in it for some reason, I'm just cleaning water off a table.
"well, see you later then."
She smiles and turns on her heel and walks off.
