C H A P T E R 4

"So you're in a fucking mafia?"

Sitting in all his handsome glory is Apollo - or Mr. Abdul- sitting casually in his chair and I, standing in the middle of his office fuming.

I walked in already having many questions to ask on my mind but Apollo beat me to it when he explained my dilemma. Apparently, since he saved me, I owe him.

One, I didn't ask to be saved...Not by him anyway. And two, if I had known he was some type of fucking Don, I wouldn't have asked.

This sick bitch has the audacity to tell me to be grateful. Grateful? I'll rather be dead.

I feel betrayed of some sort.

Apollo finally looked up at me and I tried not to shrink at the intensity of his gaze.

Men like weakness, something I was taught not to show growing up in an all females household.

He picked a stack of papers off his desk and came over to me; leaning against his desk to stand in-front of me. He handed me the stack of papers and I looked through them in confusion and annoyance since he ignored my question.

"What are these?" I asked slowly.

At the top in bold letters read Ownership Contract.

"It's a contract," he simply says and I give him an obviously glare. "Sign it."

"For?"

"Do you want to live or not?" He asks impatiently.

"Wait but-"

"-but nothing. The contract simply states that in return for your life, you will keep your mouth shut about what you know, stay here for however long I choose you to be, and possibly work for me." He further explains.

My eyes widen in shock and I shake my head no instantly, much to his dismay. "Work for you?." I spat, shoving the papers into his chest. "I'd rather die. I just met you yesterday and-"

"Five weeks." He cuts in.

"What?"

"You met me five weeks ago, Nia. You've been unconscious for five whole weeks."

"What?!" I screamed in shock. Five whole fucking weeks?

Oh my god I'm going to lose my job.

Apollo circles around me. "It's good to see you up and moving, but do you think you really have an option on this? Out of the kindness of my little brother, you were brought here and taken care of instead of dying by a stab wound for being a nosy brat. I didn't have to save you, you know. If I really wanted too, I would have let you there."

"I didn't ask you to save me." I say through gritted teeth, clenching my fist. "And weren't you the one who said 'leave her there'?"

How I thought this man was so fine is beyond me now.

"Actually, you did ask for help. You didn't ask me, but you asked my brother and I quote to 'help you'." He taunts in my ear, rubbing his hand down my back. "And for your second question yes, I did want to leave you there but for some reason Davi asked for my help. But that came with a price, I don't do anything for free."

His touch did something to me so I took a step forward away from him.

He ignored this and continued when I didn't say anything. "You saw something you weren't supposed to see and now that you have you only have two choices. Die or survive. The man Davi killed for you was a great ally of mine but he tried to hurt someone- that someone being you- and my brother didn't like it one bit, so he killed him. And we saved you. I lost money because of that and now we are in a bit of a mess. If I wanted to watch you die all I had to do was force him away from you. Which I am now starting to regret not doing by the way because it caused me a lot of trouble and you're being really ungrateful-." I scoffed, folding my arms. "I am not this nice to just anybody so think this over, carefully."

"You call this being nice?" I mumble to myself.

"Cut me off again and I won't hesitate to break your jaw." He says a little to calmly while he waits for me to say something. I don't. "If you choose to not stay then you will be tortured until the day you take your last breathe. And believe me, I don't kill quickly. What you saw that man do is nothing compared to me." He says harshly behind me.

"Why are you forcing me to do this?" I ask skeptically.

"Did I not just say that I lost money because of you? Stupid girl." He says aggravated.

I flinched at his harsh words as I absorbed what he said and read through the contract myself. He was right. I am stupid because instead of trying to run I am sitting here thinking about joining the mafia.

I have no other choice really.

Did I want to? No.

But I didn't I want to go through all of the pain of being tortured? Definitely not.

So, I have no choice.

I remained silent. He stopped circling me and was now behind me. I could feel his body heat. He was so close.

"So? What will it be, Mamã ?" He whispers deeply in my ear and I shudder at the close proximity and the nickname.

"Fine.." I mumbled and Apollo walks in front of me with his hands in his pockets; clouded eyes staring directly into mines.

"I didn't get that."

"I said fine." I say through gritted teeth.

He smirks darkly and he grabs a pen, handing it to me. "Sign it.  Once signed you will be free to walk around the house. No outside, unless given orders to or unless I can trust you to leave without running. If you break the contract, like snitching, running, or quitting. You will be killed instantly by one of my men or I will do it myself."

Taking in his words, I shakingly write my signature on the bottom of each page.

I, Nia Holloway , hereby agree to abide by this contract. I will not snitch, I will not run, I will not quit. I will follow orders and participate in the likings of the Brazilian Association (BA) Mafia. I, Nia Holloway, will work for The BA Mafia in any way or form and I will remain loyal to them. If this contract is broken I, Nia Holloway, gives the rights to The BA Mafia to do as they please with me rather it be death or to be sold.

I, Nia Holloway, agree to these terms.

God, I just signed my life away.

"Good. Now I'm going to have you be trained and in a few weeks I will be seeing what you can do for me." He takes the papers from me a throw them on the desks as he looks at me.

"Why so soon? I have to heal."

"Because you need to learn how to fight if you're going to be around me and my people. You have no say in when or what I have you do. Don't forget your place."

I blew a raspberry. "This is too much."

"Someone should've taught you to mind your business or you wouldn't be in this mess." Apollo snorts and he walks towards the door, motioning for me to leave.

Fucking asshole.
