~The Contract~
Everyone got up from the table and went to see who was at the door. I stood towards the back as Gandalf opened the door.
There stood the handsomest dwarf I have ever seen. He had an air of authority radiating off of him. His hair was black with a few white streaks and went past his shoulders slightly. He had two braids woven into his hair. The beard on his face was well groomed. The thing that I really noticed though was the color of his eyes. They were a piercing blue that just seemed to look straight through you. They help a look of pain, but there was kindness hidden deep within them.
"Gandalf. I thought you said this place would be easy to find. I lost my way, twice. I wouldn't have found it at all had it not been for that mark on the door." the dwarf said as he walked into Bilbo's home.
His voice was amazing! It just sent shivers down my spine. It was a wonderful deep baritone.
"Mark? There's no mark on that door. It was painted a week ago." Bilbo said as he walked over to where the dwarf and Gandalf stood by the door.
"There is a mark; I put it there myself. Bilbo Baggins, allow me to introduce the leader of our company, Thorin Oakenshield." Gandalf said.
"So, this is the Hobbit. Tell me, Mr. Baggins, have you done much fighting?" Thorin said, looking at Bilbo.
He walkef around the hobbit and examined him from all sides. Bilbo seemed to shrink under his scrutiny. I'm not going to lie; I would too if I was in Bilbo's position.
"P-Pardon me?" Bilbo stuttered nervously.
"Axe or sword? What's your weapon of choice?" Thorin said as he stopped infront of the hobbit.
"Well, I have some skill at Conkers, if you must know, but I fail to see why that's relevant." Bilbo stated.
"Thought as much. He looks more like a grocer than a burglar." Thorin said and smirked at the hoddit.
The dwarves laughed and headed towards the dining room. I went to follow, but was stopped by Thorin.
"And who are you?" he asked when he noticed me.
I looked up into his eyes and felt sparks run across my skin giving me goosebumps. I quickly looked away and shook my head to clear it. I had no idea what just happened there.
"Ah, yes. Thorin, I would like to introduce you to Edin Flannery. I have asked her to join us on our quest." Gandalf said and I bowed in greeting.
"I will not have a woman accompany us. She will only get in the way." Thorin said angrily.
I scowled at him menacingly. He did not seem to notice it though.
"I can assure you, master dwarf, that I will not be a burden to you on this journey. Just because I am a woman does not mean that I cannot take care of myself!" I growled.
"Prove it. What is your weapon of choice?" he asked grumpily.
"I am skilled with bow and arrow, deul swords, and throwing knives." I said confidently looking into his eyes.
"Very well. You may come." Thorin sighed rather reluctantly.
I smirked at his back as he walked into the dining room with the rest of the dwarves that had stopped to watch our conversation.
