-CHAPTER FIVE- Aftermath

The next morning Mabel, Pacifica and I were in the kitchen eating breakfast. Stan, Ford, Soos, and Melody were in the living room watching the morning news. While Pacifica was eating her pancakes, she noticed something odd in it.

'What is this on my pancake? Is that hair?' she asked in disgust.

'Oops, I think that's a leftover pancake from yesterday's breakfast. Gruncle Stan probably made it. He calls it Stan cakes. It's probably got some of his hair stuck in it,' I answered.

Pacifica pushed the plate away.

'I'm not hungry anymore.'

Mabel and I could not help laughing. My sister had tears in her eyes.

'You are more than welcome to have my pancake,' Pacifica said sarcastically.

We both stopped laughing.

'I thought so,' she said.

'Kids, you'll want to see this!' Stan screamed.

'We're coming!' I yelled back.

The three of us run into the living room.

'What is it Gruncle Stan?' Mabel asked.

Stan merely pointed at the television screen.

They settled in to watch the news.

'Good morning, Shandra Jimenz reporting from outside Gravity Falls prison. Joining me is Sherriff Blubs. Last night Preston Northwest was arrested for the domestic abuse of Pacifica Elise Northwest. According to Sherriff Blubs, Preston directly threatened Pacifica, saying that he would kill her. This morning Preston escaped from prison.'

'What!' We all screamed together.

'How did the dude escape? He doesn't look like an escape artist to me,' Soos said.

'Sherriff Blubs, could you tell us more about this?' Shandra asked.

Everyone turned their attention to the screen.

'Of course, Mrs. Jimenz. While we were arresting Mr. Northwest, he was extremely aggressive, filled with hatred for his daughter. I would describe it as looking into the face of pure evil. He tried to grab Miss Northwest, but my deputies took action and stopped him before he could do anything to her. According to one of the officers that was driving him to prison, he was completely calm. Upon reflection, his behaviour was strange, because just moments before, he had been boiling with anger. This morning when we were about to question him, we found that his cell had been completely destroyed and all that was left was a note on the floor,' Blubs explained.

'What was written on the note Sherriff Blubs?' Shandra asked.

'The note said, and I quote: I know this will be on the news soon, so I hope you are seeing this. I have one thing to say to the Pines family and one thing only. I will kill you and everyone you care about even if it's the last thing I do! End quote. He wrote the word kill in capital letters. Preston Northwest has completely lost his mind; I can tell you that. My deputies are working around the clock to find him,' Sherriff Blubs answered.

'I hope the Pine family are watching this and that they are safe.' She turned away from Sheriff Blubs and faced the screen. 'In other news, the cheese festival hosted by Phineas has been delayed till the end of August,' Shandra continued.

Stan switched the TV off.

'Sheriff Blubs was correct when he said that Preston had lost his mind. We have dealt with someone worse than him in the past, we'll weather this as well. I'm off to the store to buy ten guns and a ladder,' Stan said.

'But Gruncle Stan, we already have a ladder,' I said.

'Soos broke the ladder yesterday. How he managed that no one knows.' Soos looked guilty as hell.

'Oh,' I said, glaring at Soos.

'I will be gone for a while. Good luck with your date Dipper,' Stan said.

'Thanks! See you later Gruncle Stan!'

Stan walked to his car and drove away.

'Pacifica, as long you are with us; we will protect you. The house may not look secure to you, but it's safer than the Pentagon and the White House put together. We have a roof-mounted sophisticated radar system that continuously monitors the outer perimeter for a five-kilometre radius. Infrared cameras bordering the complex can detect even the slightest temperature variation and send an alert message to my phone. I will be notified of any security concerns or potential threats, and don't forget that we are protected against any weirdness by unicorn hair,' Ford said.

'Don't worry Ford I already feel safe around you guys, so the house doesn't have to have Pentagon level security,' Pacifica said.

'I promise that we will protect you,' I said.

My phone rang.

'Hallo?'

'Hi this is Wendy. Have you seen the news?'

'Yes, I did. I couldn't tell you about the events last night, it happened quite late and we were dead tired and fell asleep as soon as we got back home,' I explained.

'Don't worry about that. Do you still want to go on our date even though Preston wants your head?' Wendy asked.

'Yes, I'm sure but we have to be careful. Besides, we have dealt with someone far worse before.'

'Yes, you're right, we have survived worse. How's Pacifica taking this?'

'Very well, actually. She said she feels save with us, so she doesn't worry about the fact that her father has escaped. Gruncle Ford did say this house is safer than the Pentagon and the White House combined,' I answered.

'That's good to hear. As long as she feels safe, we don't have to worry. Anyway, I will see you at half past twelve at Greasy's Diner,' Wendy said.

'See you then,' I said and hung up.

'Was that Wendy?' Mabel asked.

'Yes, it was. She just told me that she had seen the news and asked how Pacifica was doing,' I answered.

'Ok. Pacifica and I are going to the mall to get supplies for the slumber party tonight. Candy and Grenda will meet us there. We can drop you off at Greasy's Diner on our way to the mall.'

'Thanks, Mabel.'

'No problem,' my sister said and smiled at me.

'Remember what I told you, Dipper. Don't disappoint her or I'll sue you,' Pacifica said sarcastically.

'Don't worry, Pacifica I won't forget. If you'll excuse me, I must get ready for my date,' I said as I walked upstairs to take a shower.
