Out the Window and Down a Ladder

Note that this story is told in an AU where everything is in present time instead of the 90's.

My name is y/n l/n. I'm 15, and my life is shit. I live in a big house. A BIG house on a BIG property. And I live with my dad. He's strict but I know it's only because he cares. You're probably wondering what makes my life so shitty then. Well, I was given the role of popularity the moment I stepped into Highschool. This was not something I asked for. All the eyes on you, all the expectations. If I miss one party the entire school will be whispering about me for a week. I have friends, but I'm honestly not sure if any of them actually like each other and I sure as hell do not like them.

Tonight is the first night of summer break, and the kids at my school go all out. There's a bonfire on the beach with beer and whatever other alcohol they could find, as well as weed and probably other drugs. Let's not forget that these are the kids of rich families. That's what you get when you go to boarding school.

I was in my bedroom getting ready. My dad was already passed out on the couch downstairs so I could easily get out without him noticing me. I finished my eyeliner, touched up my highlighter, and shoved my phone and a few $20 dollar bills in my back pocket. I opened my window and slid out onto the roof. I couldn't keep the ladder right by my window, that would be too suspicious. But If I left it a few doors down my dad would never expect me to walk our slick slanted roof over to it. I hopped on the ladder and creeped down to the ground.

Outside my gate I could already see the blaze of the fire and the silhouettes of the teens of all ages drinking and dancing. I made my way down the road to the beach, checking my phone while I walked to see if any of my "friends" had texted. There was about 100+ notifications in our shared group chat, but none directly to me. I didn't care, if they didn't care for me there was no reason for the feeling to be anything more than mutual.

I arrived at the bonfire wearing short shorts and a striped cropped tank top with a jacket around my waist. I was immediately approached by a tall guy, maybe a few years older than me, with blonde hair and no shirt. He was visibly intoxicated and slurred something along the lines of "Hey baby you're looking hot tonight, how about we head back to my car." He winked at me and reached for my hand.

"Piss off Kash. No girl here wants to sleep with you and most certainly not in your busted up car," I snarled back.

He reached for my arm but I pulled away, "What did you say slut?"

"I said-" I started, but a circle was forming around us and eyes were all over me. Some people had their phones out with flash on and others were chanting. I felt tears burning the corners of my eyes as I looked around at all the people.

Suddenly someone pulled him away from me. "She said piss off. Now go," He said. He had curly dark hair and was wearing a black tee. I didn't recognize him but apparently everyone else did because they immediately backed off. Kash, the blonde, immediately ran off to another group of guys.

The dark-haired boy approached me and stuck his hand out, "Miles, Miles Fairchild."

Still in shock at the events that had occurred I croaked, "W-what?" He smirked and opened his mouth to say something but before he could I was swept away by someone else. This time though, I recognized it to be Caroline, one of the girls from the group I spent most of my time with.

"What the fuck are you doing?" She whisper-yelled to me.

"Huh?" I said bluntly.

"I said what the fuck are you doing talking to Miles?"

"Who?" I asked. I probably sounded drunk even though I hadn't even had the chance to get something to drink yet.

"Ugh never mind. Just stay the hell away from him," She pointed to the curly haired boy I'd been rescued by earlier.

I just nodded and wandered off to find a cooler and get a drink. I was ready to leave already but while I had to chance to get free drinks, I thought I might as well. I grabbed a beer and downed it in one go. Then I grabbed another and wandered off to find Caroline and let her know I was leaving. Instead, I found her and the boy whose name I assumed was Miles exchanging spit sloppily next to the fire. I rolled my eyes and headed for the road.

I didn't know what I was doing or where I was going. I debated just going home but for some reason I found myself being pulled to a nearby gas station. I had money I figured why not get some snacks? I put my jacket on and slipped the unopened can of beer into my pocket.

I walked in and nodded to the cashier, one of the kids that was probably just working there as a summer job because they had nothing better to do. I grabbed a package of Twix and gum and paid at the counter. On my way out I noticed a familiar face sitting on the hood of a red Cadillac next to one of the gas pumps. He smirked devilishly at me and patted the spot beside him. I made a confused face at him and walked over.

"I had been trying to introduce myself to you when we were so rudely interrupted," He said, "I'm Miles-"

I cut him off, "I already know your name." I was hoping if I came off tough he would leave me alone and let me go home.

"Well, I don't know yours, that's very unusual in this town," He said, tilting his head.

I laughed, "Yeah right. It's y/n, you recognize me now?" I grinned and popped my hip out.

"So, you're the one they're always talking about, hm?" The way he spoke made it hard to guess his intentions with the conversation. I didn't know if he was actually trying to get to know me or if he just wanted to get in my pants. "How about I take you home?" He asked, motioning to the driver's seat of his car.

"I'm not exactly in the mood to get aids from a stranger," I rolled my eyes.

"No, no," He sounded genuine, "I meant why don't I drive you back to your house and drop you off?"

I crossed my arms. "It's not far of a walk, I'll be fine."

"It's pretty chilly out, don't you think?" He stated more than asked.

Well, one thing definitely led to another because suddenly I was pinned against the wall of my bedroom with lips trailing down my neck.
