It was a normal day in the small town of Rashford. There were not many people that lived here.
It was a peaceful town. Not many big events transpire here.
Walking home, from Rashford high school, the weather started to change. From clear skies, went to gloomy weather. The winds picked up creating a more ominous atmosphere.
Grey clouds invade the once clear blue sky. Thunder begins to roar from above, making me shudder. The sun that shined so brightly, disappeared without a trace.
Rain starts to plummet heavily.
Wearing my blue denim ripped jeans and my black hoodie helped ease the cold that I was beginning to experience. With my phone dead, I have no idea how to call home to let them know that I am caught in the storm.
After walking for about a minute, I see something shiny in the ground.
Normally I would just continue walking but this time I let curiosity take the better of me.
As I reach the object, I notice that it is a pair of butterfly earrings. Now I am not a fan of jewellery but I don't know why I am just drawn to the earrings. It is like it is calling to me. I pick the earrings up and I just continue to walk home.
I finally reach home ten minutes later, soaked in rain. My long dark brown hair is all stuck to my face. My clothes are glued to my body like a second skin.
Walking up to my porch, the flowers that are place neatly dance as the rain water runs down them. The front door swings open with a loud bang.
"Charlotte! Oh my god! Why didn't you answer your phone? We were worried sick.", my mum shouts in one breath.
"Mum relax", I try to calm her down.
I should be the one panicking. I mean I was the one that had to walk home in that storm.I'm surprised by how deserted the streets were.
"Okay just go freshen up and I'll make you some hot chocolate ", she orders putting on a strict front but the concerned look in her eyes gives it away.
"Sounds like a plan", I say as I rush up the stairs careful not to leave wet puddles everywhere.
I love my mum. She has had a hard time being a single parent but not once have I heard her complain about it.
She always pulled through no matter how bad the circumstances were.
I enter my bathroom and stare at the mirror in horror. My dark brown hair is all over the place. My dark brown eyes look black as night. My nose has a slight tint of red on them. Seems like I'm catching a cold. My skin has gone ghostly pale.
I look like I'm dying. No wonder my mum got a shock of her life. I turn the shower on and start to undress myself.
I notice the scar on my left hip. I don't really know how I got that scar but for some reason I feel as if that scar has some kind of dark meaning to it.
Or maybe I just watch to many movies.
After my half an hour shower I get dressed in some grey sweatpants and my favourite black hoodie. I put on my panda socks and head downstairs where I can hear the TV on.I take a seat next to my older brother Shawn. He is so glued to the TV that he doesn't even acknowledge my presence.
"Charlotte honey, here is your hot chocolate", my mother says while handing me the cup.
For a forty-two-year-old woman she is pretty fit. With her honey doe eyes, short brown hair with a bit of grey peaking threw. She is always dressed formally which is the complete opposite of my brother and I.
"Alright, I'm leaving for work now and when I get back home I expect this house to be just as clean as how I'm leaving it now", my mother states sternly.
"Yes boss", my brother and I say in unison while mimicking soldiers.
As soon as the door closes, my brother turns to me mischievously. We have a great bound. We are always there for each other no matter what trouble the other lands themselves in.
"How long do you think she'll be gone this time?", Shawn asks with a sinister smirk. This guy is always looking for trouble.
"Probably 3 hours", I reply with a shrug.
"That is more than enough time to sneak out for a party", he pulls out his phone and starts typing away swiftly like his life depends on it.
"You wanna tag along lil sis?"
"Nah I'm good", I reply not really up for a party. The last time I went to a party... well let's just say that things did not end well for me.
"Suit yourself. Cover for me 'till I get back and don't forget to lock up properly. I don't want you getting into unwanted trouble for being ignorant", I can tell that he switched to protective older bro.
It does get annoying at times but I've learnt to deal with it.
"Yes boss. Do you require anything before I return to my chambers?", I mock a mediaeval accent.
Chuckling, he just pats me on the head mumbling something that I couldn't quite catch.
After a couple of minutes, I heard him leave. I quickly make sure that everything is locked before falling on the sofa with a light thud.
I guess I am alone again. I like being home alone. I'm an introvert so I don't really like being around people, even if it is my own family.
Surprisingly, I don't really know much about my family.
Mum has never really spoke about it. We can clearly see that it is a sensitive topic so my brother and I don't bring it up. I understand to a certain extent though.
Maybe she moved and didn't want to get involved with their drama?
I mean I would do the same but I can't really be sure as to what the reason could be. I guess I just have to wait for the right time. Don't know when that will be though.
Sitting on the couch I start to scroll through the channels. I put on one of my favourite programmes. I am a huge fan of anime.
As I was watching Jujutsu Kaisen, I heard a strange ringing sound.
It was really weird. I lowered the volume of the TV to try and hear better but the ringing sound stopped.Huh? Maybe I'm just imagining it?
I turn the volume back up and continue watching my anime. After a couple of minutes, I walk to the kitchen to get some snacks when I heard the ringing sound again.
This time it is louder. I try to see where the sound is coming from. I end up in front of my room.
I know that my phone is on the couch downstairs, so what is that sound?
