(Skylar's POV)
It's been 4 days since I first went to the hospital. Needless to say, the study sessions have been absolutely painful. I'll admit, Miller is smarter than I expected, but even more cockier. After hours of fighting over it, we finally decided on one project. The classic volcano. I was not on board with this at all, but I finally gave in because I knew he wouldn't. What's to love about volcanos? They cause destruction. Death. It's not even original for crying out loud. Well, I guess boys will be boys, right?
(Jeffrey's POV)
Julia and I have actually been better in the last week, than our entire relationship. With her cheerleading and me getting constant x-rays, I would've thought she came to break up with me, but it was the opposite. I would say that the skiing accident actually brought us closer if anything. As for the biology project, I've decided that I won't slack off this time, because this volcano is going to be wicked cool. Skylar was supposed to come to the hospital after school today with all my missed work, but I told her to forget it. I have too much on my plate, and I don't plan on adding more make-up work anytime soon.
(Shawn's POV)
Katie hasn't talked to Skylar since the night they had their little argument. I honestly don't know what's been her deal lately. I feel like she's trying to push everyone away, and that worries me. What if I'm just someone else for her to push away? No. I won't let her. I find the nerve to get up off the couch and walk the short distance to her house. After a slight knock, she opens the door with a smile. Fake.
"Hey." She says.
"Katie, can I talk to you for a minute... in private?" I ask, gesturing to her guy friend on the couch. Wait. What. She nods her head and politely asks the guy to leave, he glares at me, bumping shoulders with me, strutting out the door.
"What's up?" She asks me, walking into her bedroom, and opening her closet.
"Um I just... Are you okay?" I stutter, she seems surprised by my question, turning around to face me.
"Of course... why wouldn't I be? I have the sweetest boyfriend in the world." She tells me. Lie. She lies down on the bed, while I cross my legs, looking down at her. "Hey come on... Where's my happy Shawn..." She questions, cupping my cheeks with her hands. I feel butterflies in my stomach as my face turns red. She slowly leans to give me a kiss, when I stop her. I didn't come here for this.
"Katie. I didn't... I don't..Are w-we okay?" I finally spit out. She gives me a sympathetic smile as she wraps her arms around my neck. I hug her back, I love her. I know I do. She never answered my question.
(Skylar's POV)
Since Miller told me to just go home after soccer, I took that as his "private" time with Julia. I could be wrong, but I don't doubt it. My mom has to work late, leaving me walking home from soccer, alone. This isn't out of the ordinary for me to walk home, but it's never like this. Practice ran late, so now it's around 9 and it's extra muggy outside. I don't scare easily, but this is definitely not comfortable. Even though I live not even a mile from the soccer fields, it's the longest walk of my life. Everything just seems... off. I feel as if I'm being...watched. I quickly pull out my phone, panicking.
"Hello?" Jeffrey answers. Crap. Did I really call him out of everyone?
"Um hi.." I reply, just trying to distract myself.
"What's up?" He asks.
"I just wanted to know if we were still on for tomorrow." I lie. I know I'm not going tomorrow.
"Uh I didn't think we talked about that, but we can I guess?" He sighs.
"Nevermind. I'll see you on Friday." I tell him, ending the call as soon as I walk in my front door. I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding and throw my bag down. Could that of gone any worse?
*Next Morning*
My alarm goes off with the same annoying tune as always. Playing Justin Bieber. Hey, what can I say? It's scientifically proven that if the noise is obnoxious to you, you'll stop at nothing to terminate it. Okay I'm a dork. Leave me alone. I rush down stairs to greet my mom, who is opening the blinds slightly with her index finger.
"Morning mom...?" I call out.
"Oh hi honey, your breakfast is on the table." She tells me in a cheery voice, I nod but walk over to see what she's looking at.
"Mom, what's going on?" I ask.
"Oh it's delightful! We have new neighbors!" She squeals. I gulp. Neighbors?
