⚠️Disclaimer⚠️
I'm not trying to romanticise war in anyway as I know it's a very touchy subject! I am writing this off of the knowledge I have from learning about this ship in school and the whole theme of war from family in the military! I started writing this in school for an English assignment and ended up really enjoying it and wanting to write more. I hope this doesn't offend anyone. This story is in 2 perspectives, and it's my first story, so I hope you can keep that in mind throughout this whole series, im also not great at writing male povs! I hope you enjoy .𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐚~
I was feeding Anna to take my mind off the dangers of this trip, my sister Aurelia had been working in the makeshift hospital ward taking care of the injured and the soon to be mothers, many people didn't have the luxury like we did and had to find anywhere to sleep or rest whilst my family had our own rooms on the ship. Many mothers on the ship had found places to sleep like in the unused swimming pool it didn't sound very comfortable, but it was better than nothing, I guess. Anna hadn't settled down since we had to take her out of her pram that we were forced to leave at the docks along with many other of our belongings.
I went to put down Anna's bottle, and all of a sudden, the ship jolts. I hear screams, and people running, I take a step outside and get barged back by a large group of people I try to keep a hold of Anna and get back up but then another hit to the boat and I fall to the group again. All of a sudden, a firm grip grabs my arm and pulls me up. The man slides a life jacket on me, then grips my arm again and helps me get to the top deck of the ship where the lifeboats are we've nearly barged past through the large groups of people evacuating the ship just like us, as the ship sunk deeper and further it sunk the harder it was becoming to stay stable things were falling and crashing past, more and more torpedoes crashed into the ship making me lose my stability each time.
I finally build up the courage to speak. "Werden wir es schaffen?" "𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵?"
I nearly yell to be heard over the ear, piercing screams, and he yells back, "Das wirst du, aber ich vielleicht auch nicht" "𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵" I wondered what he meant by that but I wasn't going to question a man that was willing to help a complete stranger. After what I thought was forever, we made it to the top deck and battled our way onto a boat at this point. Anna was screaming and crying like many of the other babies on the ship, but she was safe, and that's all that mattered. A little boy had made his way over to me and clang onto the skirt of my dress I was stressing enough to keep Anna safe and worrying if my sister wasn't okay but I also felt the need to protect this little boy.
The life boat had set off by now. The boat seemed to be weighed down there, and there may of been one too many people, and the old man next to me had noticed as well I could hear him muttering under his breathe in Lithuanian "Kažkokiam niekšui reikia išlipti" "𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘰𝘧𝘧" I didn't understand much Lithuanian but I knew enough to understand him.
