Three years before the events described.
"Attention, attention, my dears." The old Practical Combat teacher tried to silence the chattering class after recess. They were second-year students preparing to become elemental warriors. "From today we will have a new student."
There were excited whispers in the classroom. Everyone turned to each other and exchanged surprised glances. It wasn't common for someone to make it to second grade. They've never heard of anything like this.
"I see that this information itself surprises you. It will probably be even harder for you to believe that the new student is Wind."
"What?!" Someone shouted above the general noise. Wind? Are they bringing the enemy into the school?
"She comes from a family that has been in alliance with us for years. Please treat her well."
Second-grade students found it difficult to concentrate in class. The teachers wouldn't allow her to be here if she was someone dangerous. But the inconspicuous Wind can be dangerous. The worst thing about them is their inconspicuousness. That's why, when a strange girl walked down the hall in the afternoon, they couldn't help but watch her with fear and curiosity.
She was inconspicuous. She wasn't noticeable at all. She moved unnaturally quietly. She didn't look at anyone or speak. At first she tried to overcome her shyness and smile at someone. But no one was ready to smile at her. He has the power of the enemy. He belongs to the enemy's family. Everyone knew that the Winds were the best spies and scouts.
Windy - that was her name - realized that she was different and should get used to being alone. She didn't want to get involved with them either. She didn't want to be one of them. Honestly, she didn't want to belong to anyone. Being trapped in this magical world was her curse.
She met Jungkook on the first day of her stay while walking in the forest. She went there so she could free herself from other people's eyes and organize her thoughts. She wanted to rest in peace for a while. Her alert ears picked up the sound of water. She walked towards it and saw a beautiful lake. She climbed a tree on the shore. One branch, another, and a third, her gaze met his.
He had such deep and shiny black eyes. There was no disgust on his face. He was the most beautiful boy she had ever seen. And he smiled at her.
"Does your hair always swirl like this?" Jungkook asked.
And he has such a nice voice. Windy turned red and looked down. Really. The wind was always restless around her.
"Are your winds different too?" The dark eyed boy continued, undeterred by the lack of response. "Our sparklers have different colors, temperatures and smells. Can I feel your wind?"
Nothing happened for a moment and Jungkook began to wonder if he had made some kind of blunder. Maybe he shouldn't ask.
But suddenly he saw the leaves of the tree moving, I heard a rustle and the wind reached his face. Or rather, he touched it, he was so gentle. It was also warm and smelled like a summer evening. It wasn't the wind doing any harm. Jungkook's heart beat quickly, he didn't know what to say when he suddenly saw that the girl's face had turned pale and she was sweating slightly.
"Are you okay?" He asked and approached worriedly. She better not fall from that height.
"Using my powers tires me quickly." She explained, her voice soft and velvety. Everything about her was so fragile.
"I've never heard of anything like this."
"That's because..." something stopped her from continuing. She glanced at the boy again. His gaze was neither insistent nor insidious. He didn't see her as an enemy, a spy or a freak. "I'm mixed. My mother is Fire and my father is Wind. I took over the gift from him. But I don't know him. I have been with my mother all my life. He's on the other side..." she explained, a little embarrassed by her honesty.
Jungkook became sad for a moment. He didn't doubt the sincerity of the story, but it had holes that worried him. Mixed relationships are very rare and actually carry a genetic risk. They are even less common between feuding families. And the Wind hates nothing more than Fire. Plus her father is there... it could be dangerous for her in the future.
He looked at the girl. She was good and naive. This means defenseless and susceptible to manipulation. He immediately guessed what awaited her.
"You know, if your wind had a color, it would be green," he said without much thought, but she raised her eyes to him and he saw emotions written so clearly in her gaze that Jungkook took his breath away for the first time in his life.
