Harry had never been happier than during the weekend he spent in Draco's arms. The blond looked after him, pampered him with pleasure. They were even out walking in Muggle London, hand in hand, discussing everything and anything.
In a street market, Harry was pleased to see a bracelet appear on his wrist. The leather cord held a silver tree of life. Soon, it was the Professor's shy smile he caught sight of, as he tucked his wallet into a pocket of his jeans.
-Thanks...
Harry dared to place a small kiss on Draco's cheek, and was rewarded with a big smile. The blond then offered him a strawberry tagada ice cream. The sight of all that sugar made Draco sick, but given his boyfriend's sparkling eyes, he told himself it really didn't matter.
The two men continued on their way, looking at shop windows and clothes, without buying anything. Finally, they found a small park, where they could settle down and enjoy the birds singing.
-Can I ask you a question?
-Of course.
-How come I've never found any of your stuff at my place? I guess that's where we were supposed to meet, since you live at Hogwarts. I've searched my whole apartment, and I haven't found anything.
Draco looked at a tree, with renewed interest in the leaves that were moving in the wind.
-I was scared. I didn't know what would happen if you came home and saw all this. So I took advantage of the evening you spent at the Weasleys' to go and collect everything.
-But, erm... When you tried to explain to me that we were together, why didn't you just show me the photos? And the memories? Don't you think it would have been easier that way?
-Because I wanted you to believe me. And I was afraid you'd accuse me of fabricating evidence, that you'd refuse to listen to me even more.
-Where has all this stuff gone now?
-They're at Hogwarts, with me, safe.
Harry smiled gently, but his heart was suddenly a little sad. He was glad to know that, in a fit of rage, Draco hadn't burnt everything. But he couldn't help imagining him crying over pictures of them, or the pain he must have felt having to put everything back as if he'd never lived in the flat.
-I am sorry.
Draco, who was watching a squirrel playing in the grass, was surprised. He turned his head towards the brunet who was looking at him with big wet eyes.
-Everything's fine now. But I'm warning you, I'm going to tattoo 'I'm in love with Draco Malfoy' across the middle of your chest to make sure it doesn't happen again.
The brunet's laughter rose into the air, and Draco was far too happy to worry about the fact that it had frightened the squirrel that had taken refuge in the top of a tree. No, Draco preferred to concentrate on the man next to him, on his flushed cheeks and the little wrinkles that appeared at the corners of his eyes.
Because right now, everything was perfect, and nothing could destroy what they had. He now had proof that even if Harry forgot all about him, he could make him fall in love with him all over again. And nothing could flatter the Malfoy's ego more than that.
But Monday arrived, and with it, the end of the truce of happiness. Draco returned to Hogwarts in an exceptionally cheerful mood, which the students happily took advantage of, well aware that it certainly wouldn't last long.
And Harry returned to his Aurora desk, where even higher files awaited him, as well as a pile of letters. But none of the paperwork distracted him from his primary mission. In the office next to his was Amanda's desk. He knocked gently on the wooden door.
-Come in.
He opened the door to find a completely different atmosphere. Papers flew around her and were stored in folders that reached up to the ceiling. A quill pen was taking notes on the tasks she was meticulously carrying out. Her long black hair in a loose bun, she nibbled on a pen before crossing out a piece of information or signing a paper.
She held her index finger out in front of her, eyebrows furrowed, without even taking the time to look up, concentrating on the file in front of her.
-Excuse-...
When her eyes fell on Harry's silhouette, she smiled widely.
-You're back !
She stood up immediately to take him in her arms. Worry had given way to relief when she saw him in Draco's arms. Despite everything, she was happy to see him back on his feet and in good shape.
Harry returned her embrace with pleasure. Since what had happened with his boyfriend, he had decided not to think too much about what he knew about his relationships with people, and to let his feelings take over. And he felt really happy to have her in his arms, and at the same time sorry for her, and for what she must have been going through during those few weeks.
-I'm sorry things happened the way they did. I kind of forgot that losing my memory could affect the people around me. Including you. You were so present and kind that I didn't realise you'd lost a friend too.
-I haven't lost it, the proof is that it's right in front of me.
Harry stepped back, looking at her with affection.
-Thank you for everything you've done for me.
-Don't thank me yet. We still have to find the people who did this.
-Any new leads?
The two auroras leaned over the desk, where she summoned several files. She also asked the enchanted quill to take notes on what they were going to say. Anything could be useful later. And she liked to reread conversations to get a better overview.
-As you know, we went through the cases you handled during your career as an auror, and tried to make a link with the people who were at the warehouse that day. But nothing in particular stood out.
Harry ran a frustrated hand through his hair.
-So nothing new. I wasn't really expecting miracles, but at least a new lead. Or something... Sorry, I don't mean that you should have solved all my problems while I was locked up at home... Just that it would have taken a hell of a load off my mind.
-Don't worry. But I might have found something. Only I'm not sure, and I don't want to get your hopes up.
-Always say.
With a wave of her hand, a file flew across the desk, while the others were being put away.
-I've often wondered why you have a bigger office than I do.
-Mine's just ordained Harry. You know, these are very easy spells to do, especially for a wizard of your rank.
-Mmh... I can't find anything after tidying spells. I'm used to doing everything by hand.
-Except you don't do it by hand either.
Like a self-respecting aurora, Harry stuck out his tongue at her before concentrating on the file in front of them.
-Why this particular case?
-Because of some similarities. But at the time it was solved quite easily. The person is still in prison.
-Can I keep it?
Amanda looked horrified at the thought of her well-kept, scratch-free file ending up in Harry's jumble of files, lost forever in the maze of his non-organisation.
-I'll make a copy.
With a contrite smile, the dark-haired man quickly copied the file and left for his office.
